Corey LaJoie has walked back the controversial remark he made earlier this year about 'racing in front of 12 fans' in the Truck Series. Ahead of his Truck Series start at Michigan International Speedway, the Spire Motorsports driver admitted that he wasn't in the right headspace when he made that comment and now regrets the backlash that followed.

Lajoie made his Cup Series debut in 2014 and later joined Spire Motorsports in 2021 before vacating his seat in 2024. While he competes part-time in the 2025 season, the 33-year-old has now signed up for nine Truck starts with Spire this year, beginning with the DQS Solutions & Staffing 250 Powered By Precision Vehicle Logistics at Michigan.

However, back in January, LaJoie sparked controversy when he dismissed the idea of Truck racing when compared to the Cup Series. He was looking to make his part-time Cup Series debut with Rick Ware Racing at the time. Since then, he has made three Cup starts and failed to break into the top 20 in any of them.

Speaking to the media on Friday, June 6, LaJoie addressed his earlier remarks on the Truck Series, stating (via Frontstretch),

"I've said a lot of dumb things on camera, so that was just another one....I said something about not going out of truck series and racing in front of 12 fans. So, just a clear context for everybody. I said that on the morning of a day, five day fast, Bob, and you have asked me that sort of question for like my eight years of my career. So, there was just that day I wasn't in the mood to play around. So, I wish I wouldn't have added that 12 comment bit, right?" [4:15 onwards]

Corey LaJoie also joined Prime Video's commentary booth for its broadcast at Charlotte Motor Speedway. A week before the crown jewel event, he made his CARS Tour debut at North Wilkesboror Speedway, but fell victim to an exhaust issue that saw him retire from the race. His 28th-place finish drew criticisms from fans, while LaJoie took notice and fired back with his own response.

"I want to win": Corey LaJoie reveals sole objective in the Truck Series

Corey LaJoie has made 275 Cup Series starts in his career but has never earned the checkered flag once. He has only recorded 11 top-10 finishes so far, while his best result comes at a fourth-place finish in 2023 at Talladega Superspeedway. Nonetheless, the North Carolina native hopes to turn his luck in the Truck Series.

Reflecting upon the same, he spoke to the media and said (via 5 Goats),

"I want to win a national race....I’ve been pretty close on the biggest stages a couple of times, but at the end of the day, like, your perception within the garage as a winner is a lot different than finishing second."

Corey LaJoie made his first Truck Series start in 2014 and returned to the division in 2023. His best results come from a 10th-place result at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2024.
