Hendrick Motorsports Vice Chairman Jeff Gordon shared an update on Alex Bowman following a race-ending crash last Sunday. Gordon affirms that Bowman will race in Mexico City this week despite experiencing soreness from the wreck.

To recall, Bowman, driver of the #48 HMS Chevrolet, was involved in a multi-car incident at Michigan International Speedway on lap 67. It resulted in a head-on crash into the outside wall, forcing a premature end to the 32-year-old driver's race.

In a report by NASCAR Insider Daniella Trotta, Jeff Gordon said Alex Bowman was still sore, but is ready for the upcoming race outside the US.

“Asked Jeff Gordon On Track a moment ago about Alex Bowman health after taking a massive hit head-on into the wall at Michigan. Said Bowman was very sore but ok and has no reason to believe he won’t be in the car at Mexico City,” Trotta wrote on X.

The DNF in the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan was Bowman's third of the season. He also walked out of the race weekend with his worst average finish over five weeks at 28.2, ranking second-to-last among full-time NASCAR Cup Series drivers.

His HMS teammates were able to bring their cars to the finish line. Kyle Larson (#5) finished in fifth place ahead of Chase Elliott (#9) in 15th and William Byron (#24) in 28th. Denny Hamlin, meanwhile, took the checkered flag for his third win of the year.

The inaugural Viva Mexico 250 in Mexico City will be live on Amazon Prime on June 15 at 3:00 p.m. ET. The 100-lap road course race will be held at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez, the same track hosting racing series such as Formula 1.

“They’ll give us the tools we need”: Alex Bowman on how Jeff Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports can help him produce better results

Despite having a rough year, Alex Bowman believes he can turn it around, especially with the support of Hendrick Motorsports executives, including Jeff Gordon. He argued that the #48 team is much better than the results halfway through the 2025 season.

The eight-time NASCAR Cup Series race winner said (via a press release from Chevrolet):

“We’ve had a lot of speed and a lot of good race cars. Obviously today, we were off from where we needed to be. But just the support that we have from Rick (Hendrick), Jeff (Gordon), and everybody at Hendrick Motorsports, they’ll give us the tools we need to get turned back around."

“We just needed to get pointed back in the right direction. We’re a much better race team than this,” he added.

After 15 races in the 2025 season, Bowman ranks 13th in the points standings, a far cry from his teammates, who are all in the top five. The #48 driver has amassed two top-5s and seven top-10s, including a second-place finish behind Larson on a weekend to forget at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
