New York Jets wide receivers coach Miles Austin made headlines for the wrong reason on Friday.
The NFL suspended the former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver for violating the league's personnel gambling policy. Per ESPN, the league had been investigating Austin's online gambling activities for quite some time. Austin reportedly did not place any bets on NFL games but placed wagers from the team's facility.
He was absent from the sidelines during the Jets' crippling 19-3 loss against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday Night Football. No explanation was offered for his absence at the time, but the suspension on Friday suggests the league had already notified the Jets of their intention to punish Austin before the game against the Jaguars.
While Austin has mainly been out of the headlines for over a decade, he did make some in 2010, and it wasn't because of his excellent work on the field for the Cowboys.
