Frank Chamizo: A Brief Biography
Frank Chamizo is an Italian wrestler born on 10th July 1992. He is a native of Matanzas in Cuba and has been residing in Italy since 2013. Frank specializes in Freestyle wrestling and represents Italy in the 74 kg category.
Frank began to take up an interest in wrestling when he curiously visited the wrestling academy in Cuba. Her wrestling talent was spotted by the Cuban Government, who offered him a scholarship to attend the secondary school where he can practice wrestling. After years of hard work, Frank Chamizo got his first international break by winning the Bronze medal in the 55 kg category at the World Wrestling Championships.
From 2013 onwards Frank Chamizo began to compete for Italy. In 2015, he was crowned as World Champion in the 65 kg category at the World Wrestling Championships. The following year, Frank made his Olympics debut and took home the Bronze medal in the 65 kg category at the Rio Olympics.
At the European Wrestling Championships, Frank had clinched four Gold medals (2016, 2017, 2019, and 2020) and two Bronze medals (2018 and 2021) in the 74 kg category. In 2017, he became the national champion in the 70 kg category at the Italian Wrestling Championships. That year, Frank won his second World title in the 70 kg category. In 2020, he won the Silver medal in the 74 kg category at the Individual World Cup.
Frank Chamizo will make his second Olympics appearance at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and he will compete in the 74 kg category.
