Joseph Christopher McKenna: A Brief Biography
Joseph Christopher McKenna is an American wrestler born on 3rd August 1995. He hails from Ridgewood village in New Jersey, United States. Joseph specializes in Freestyle wrestling and represents the USA in the 65 kg category.
Joseph picked up an interest in wrestling while studying at Blair Academy. As a high school student, he won numerous wrestling titles at prestigious amateur wrestling tournaments like Ironman and Beast of the East. After graduating from high school, Joseph joined Stanford University, where he became a member of the Standford Cardinal wrestling team.
Joseph McKenna received his first international breakthrough in 2014 when he won the Silver medal in the 60 kg category at the Junior World Wrestling Championships. In 2016, he took home his first NCAA medal by taking Bronze in the 141 lbs category at the NCAA Division 1 Men’s Wrestling Championships. The following year, Joseph won the Bronze medal in the 65kg Category at the U23 World Wrestling Championships.
Joseph transferred to Ohio State University and became a part of Ohio State Buckeyes, with whom he won a Silver (2019) and a Bronze (2018) in the 141 lbs category at the NCAA Division 1 Men’s Wrestling Championships. At the US Wrestling Championships, he won a Gold medal (2018), a Silver (2019), and a Bronze (2020) in the 65 kg category.
Joseph Christopher McKenna qualified for his debut Olympics at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics after he was placed third in the US Olympic Wrestling Trials. He will compete in the 65 kg category at the biggest quadrennial event.
