Sajan Prakash: A Brief Biography

Sajan Prakash is an Indian swimmer born on 14th September 1997. He hails from the Idukki district in Kerala. Sajan specializes in Freestyle and Butterfly and represents India internationally in those disciplines.


Sajan Prakash- Early Life, Family & Background


Sajan Prakash began to pursue swimming at a young age and joined Neyveli Lignite City Swimming Club. His mother, VJ Santhimol, is a former athlete who had represented India internationally. Sajan did his schooling at St. Paul’s Matriculation Higher Secondary in Neyveli, Tamil Nadu. He completed his graduation in Computer Applications from Annamalai University.

Sajan Prakash Achievements


In 2015, Sajan Prakash had bagged six gold medals in 100m Butterfly, 200m Butterfly, 400m, 800m, and 1500m Freestyles, 4x100m Freestyle, and two silver medals in 200m Freestyle and 4x100m Medley at the National Games of India.


At the 2016 South Asian Games, Sajan Prakash clinched three gold medals in 200m Butterfly, 1500m Butterfly, and 4x200m Freestyle. That year, he made his Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio Olympics and finished at 28th position in the 200m Freestyle.

In 2018, Sajan Prakash competed at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, where he finished 8th in the 200m Butterfly final with a timing of 1:59.05 seconds. That year, in August, he finished 5th in 200m Butterfly by clocking 1:57.75s and 8th in 4x100m Freestyle.


In June 2021, Sajan Prakash qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after achieving ‘A’ Olympic qualification time in the 200m Butterfly at the 2021 Sette Colli Trophy in Rome, Italy. He also shattered his own national record by clocking 1:56.38 seconds.
