9-1-1 season 6 episode 17 recap: Signs, signs everywhere

The latest episode of 9-1-1 began with a case involving a marriage proposal. A guy decided to propose to his girlfriend by skydiving and landing in front of her. But unfortunately, his attempt was mistimed and unlucky. While diving, his parachute got caught in a car door, which was being used by a bank robber to flee.

As the car accelerated away, the guy also got pulled in, potentially putting him in a life-threatening situation. Thankfully, the police arrived in time to get him away. Before he was carried into an ambulance, the woman agreed to the proposal. But she revealed to the firefighter team that she would not marry him but did not want to hurt him after he got into such a mess trying to propose.

This made Chimney conscious, thinking that Maddie may also reject him or accept him only because she does not want to hurt him. This was coupled with the fact that Chimney had lost the ring, leading him to interpret it as a sign from the universe.

After telling everyone that the proposal was off the table, 9-1-1 moved in another intriguing direction as Maddie found the ring in Jee-Yun's dollhouse. She understood that Chimney was going to propose, but this generated her own set of doubts.

She went to Buck (Oliver Stark) for help, who reluctantly revealed that Hen (Aisha Hinds) thought it was a bad idea at first but has now accepted it. This put Maddie in an even more complicated position.

The other case for the 9-1-1 team also involved another marriage. An elderly woman who was marrying her childhood sweetheart had an accident on the bridge with her horse-drawn carriage, leading the team through an intense rescue mission.

Hen saw this wedding as a sign and spoke to Chimney about it, but he was still reluctant because of his fears and insecurities. After a brief storyline with Eddie (Ryan Guzman) and his dating life, the episode went back to the topic of Maddie and Chimney.

Hen finally spoke to Maddie, and it made the latter realize that she wanted to marry Chimney after all. The episode concluded with Maddie proposing to Chimney and the latter agreeing.

9-1-1 is available for streaming on Hulu.
