Joran van der Sloot, who is suspected of being involved in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway, asked his wife for a divorce a year ago. Sloot was convicted of murdering Stephany Flores in 2010 and was sentenced to 28 years in prison. The 35-year-old suspect is currently dating a “prettier and younger” girlfriend named Eva Pacohuanaco. It was also revealed that his 24-year-old girlfriend was accused of smuggling drugs to Joran van der Sloot when he was in jail.

Joran van der Sloot was married to 33-year-old Leidy Figueroa. The two got married in Piedras Gordas prison in Peru in 2014. The couple has a daughter named Dusha Trudie Van der Sloot, who was born about two months after their marriage. In a love letter that Sloot wrote to Leidy, he said that would buy her a house.

The news about van der Sloot wanting to divorce his wife was shared on Twitter by multiple sources including the handle @NewsNew97351204.

Joran van der Sloot is dating a much younger woman, Eva, after leaving his wife

Joran married Leida Figueroa back in July 2014 while he was in prison. According to his lawyer Maximo Altez, they filed for divorce around a year ago. The suspect allegedly left Leida for his girlfriend Eva Pacohuanaco. Altez also confirmed that Eva was also accused of smuggling drugs to Joran van der Sloot while he was behind bars.

Shortly after van der Sloot's marriage, Leida spoke to news outlets and described her husband as “gentle, sensitive, kind.” She said that he wasn’t a monster. However, Altez claimed that she was one of the many women that Sloot dated in prison and said that Joran still writes to other women who send him pictures. He noted that Leida was the most loyal among all the women who Sloot dates.

It was stated that, despite the infidelity, it was Sloot who asked for a divorce and began dating his 24-year-old girlfriend Eva. The lawyer revealed how mad Leida was when Joran van der Sloot filed for divorce. He said that Leida asked him how he could have let this happen as he was the "godfather" of their marriage. He added that while Leida got mad at him, she was "partly right.”

Joran van der Sloot was a suspect in the disappearance of American teen Natalee Holloway

Sloot made headlines after his name was connected to the disappearance of an Alabama teen named Natalee Holloway. She disappeared on a high school graduation trip to Aruba on May 30, 2005. The 18-year-old went missing shortly after leaving a bar with Sloot and two other individuals.

When she wasn’t found, and authorities couldn’t trace her, Holloway was declared legally dead in 2012, and they couldn't recover her remains.

Joran van der Sloot was allegedly trying to swindle around $250,000 from Beth Holloway, Natalee’s mom. He is currently facing extradition to Alabama and faces charges of fraud and extortion. Addressing the charges, Altez said that Joran wants to go back to the US to prove that he didn't try and extort Beth Holloway. He added that the suspect realized that he can be "absolved of the charges."

Beth Holloway spoke about her daughter in a statement recently. She said that she was blessed to have had her daughter for 18 years and stated that she had been without her daughter for that exact amount of time. Adding that Natalee would have been 36 years old, Beth said that while it has been a long and painful journey, the persistence of many people will be paying off.

Beth noted:

"Together, we are finally getting justice for Natalee.”

It was also confirmed that Sloot also has to spend an additional seven years in prison after his girlfriend Eva smuggled marijuana and cocaine into the prison.

Joran van der Sloot's decision to leave his wife for a younger girlfriend has been contradictory to the gushy love letter that he wrote to his wife.
