The Simpsons fans recently claimed that the hit television series predicted Australian breakdancer Raygun’s performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics. On August 9, the 36-year-old failed to score any points in the three rounds of the competition. Meanwhile, viewers took to the internet to react to the bizarre similarities between the show and the Olympics performance.

Australian breaker Rachael Gunn, best known as Raygun, brought the heat to the stage with her peculiar performance, which sparked a meme fest online. In a video shared on Instagram (@bennyhodge27) that showed her moves, many netizens noticed that Raygun's breakdancing was similar to that of The Simpsons character, Homer.

In an episode (released in 1993) of the animated series titled Last Exit to Springfield, Homer became the president of the Springfield Nuclear Power Plant’s trade union and led workers of the plant to go on a strike to restore dental surgeries. He did so to ensure that his family would not have to pay out of their pockets for his daughter Lisa’s new braces.

To make his victory moment memorable, Homer uttered his celebratory catchphrase “woo” and started showing off his moves by jumping on the floor and dancing around on his side. Many internet users pointed out the resemblance between Homer and Raygun’s performance.

Commenting on the same, one netizen stated:

The breakdancing community extends support to Raygun following her Olympic performance

After Gunn was relentlessly trolled online, the breakdancing federation released a statement extending support to the professor-dancer. On August 11, 2024, Martin Gilian, also known as MGbility from the federation, said:

“Breaking is all about originality and bringing something new to the table and representing your country and region. This is exactly what Raygun was doing. She got inspired by her surroundings, which in this case, for example, was a kangaroo.”

Sergey Nifontov, the general secretary of the World DanceSport Federation, revealed in a press statement that the organization has been in contact with Raygun officials from the Australian Olympic Team. He said:

“We offered support of our safe-guarding officer. We are aware of what has happened especially on social media and definitely we should put the safety of the athlete in this case mental safety in first place. She has us as a federation supporting her."

Unfortunately, Gunn will not be appearing at the Olympics again, as the competition will be axed from the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
