A Facebook post shared by Yoda Bby Aby on November 25, 2024, claimed that a sequel to There's Something About Mary has been scheduled to be released soon. Notably, the report is fake since Yoda Bby Aby shares only satirical news.
The social media post of Yoda Bby Aby featured Cameron Diaz and Ben Stiller on a poster, with the title of the sequel as There's Still Something About Mary.
The comments section of the post was flooded with responses from fans, with one of them calling the film the funniest movie of all time. People even recalled the iconic moments from the film, with a few others saying that Matt Dillon should have been cast, who was also featured in the first film.
Producers of There's Something About Mary have not announced a sequel
Yoda Bby Aby's Facebook post claimed that the sequel is supposed to arrive on the big screen in March next year. Although other details related to the cast members were not disclosed, the caption had some little information about the plot of the sequel to There's Something About Mary.
"Ben Stiller and Cameron Diaz reunite as Ted and Mary, who, after six months apart, decide to try blind dating through a personality-matching app. When the app pairs them together, their unexpected reunion leads to a heartfelt and comedic journey to rekindle their love."
As mentioned, Yoda Bby Aby shares satirical news due to which the timeline is full of reports related to sequels and live-action remakes of various popular films.
The page had shared another post a day ago, stating that a reboot of The Terminator, helmed by Eli Roth, was coming to theatres in July 2025. One of the posts claimed that a new film based on Ghost Rider was supposed to be released in the upcoming year, marking the return of Nicolas Cage as the lead.
Even though Yoda Bby Aby's Facebook post claimed that There's Still Something About Mary was being planned, the makers of the first film have not confirmed a follow-up until now.
Director of There's Something About Mary speaks up on the sequel plans
The first film came out a long time back in 1998 and turned out to be successful in terms of critical response and box office collections. Despite being a recipient of various awards and nominations, a sequel was never made.
While speaking to ComicBook.com in March this year, director Peter Farrelly stated that although a sequel to There's Something About Mary was planned in the beginning, Peter and his brother Bobby were not in support since they believed that the story concluded with the first part. Bobby also helmed the film along with Peter.
The original idea for the sequel was to explore a little bit about the past life of the main character, Mary Jensen, and while the studio executives were not satisfied with the same, the plans were eventually dropped at one point. Peter addressed the entire situation by saying:
"You know, Dumb & Dumber was the one, like you could do ten Dumb & Dumbers, honestly, and I really enjoyed Dumb & Dumber 2 – the one that we did, and I love those two guys, so…bring it back."
At the time of its release, There's Something About Mary was listed as one of the funniest films by various publications such as Total Film magazine.
