Travis Barker's daughter, Alabama Barker, is old enough to vote, but she won't be voting in the Presidential Election 2024. The 18-year-old shared a selfie-style video on Instagram Live on October 9 explaining why she won't be casting her vote in the upcoming presidential election, saying that she doesn't feel like she's "fully educated" about what she will be voting for.
Her video, where she also said that "she don't care to vote," made rounds online, and netizens shared their opinions.
"Must be nice to be rich and not care about the economy," a X user commented.
Other commenters on social media noted that they "appreciate" Alabama Barker acknowledging her "ignorance" or lack of understanding about politics.
"To be privileged enough to not know what's going on and not worry about what's going on is a blessing. I can appreciate someone acknowledging their ignorance but it really comes from the privilege," an X user said.
"I mean, I can respect someone who can admit to not understanding the legit policy positions. There are pros and cons to each candidate in any race. To pretend that any singular nominee is the best in ALL facets, I don't think that's realistic," another X user commented.
However, some netizens online are not buying Travis Barker's daughter's "uneducated" excuse for not voting in the upcoming presidential election. Several social media users flocked to the comments section of her video and called her out for not educating herself, which they claimed was just "two taps away."
"I'm not letting the excuse of being "uneducated" fly when there's access to so many free resources to get educated. The right excuse is laziness," an X user commented.
"She could've caught up to everything before turning 18 to give yourself that chance to vote," another X user said.
"It's very weird to say 'if I don't know all the facts, I can't vote' as though the Safari button isn't two taps away?? Are we allergic to doing our own research? Like girl wtf are you taking about," an X user chimed in.
Travis Barker's daughter Alabama said she "genuinely" doesn't "care" about voting, but "maybe next year" she will
Alabama Barker turned 18 last December, but she won't be using her voting eligibility in the upcoming presidential election. She has expressed her reasons for not voting in her recent Instagram Live video, saying that "not voting isn't crazy," at least in her opinion.
Travis Barker's daughter also explained that she has little to no care about voting after saying that she doesn't feel like she has "the exact education for what [she's] voting for." She said:
"I'm just honest. I don't care to vote if I don't know exactly what's going on. I don't think that's wrong. And I completely stand on that, and I stand by it."
During her live stream, an Instagram user allegedly commented that Travis Barker's kid's "privilege is showing," as reported by Independent UK in its October 9 article. Alabama Barker didn't let it pass, reportedly defending her choice, saying:
"Like, what? Because I don't want to vote? I'm not educated on it. Maybe next year I'll vote."
Elsewhere in her Instagram Live, Travis Barker's daughter justified her choice not to vote, saying that if she didn't want to vote, she didn't have to do it, and if she didn't want to be involved in politics, that is also her choice to make.
