Elon Musk recently garnered scrutiny because of his now-deleted tweet about Kamala Harris and Joe Biden. In the tweet, the Tesla CEO wrote:
"And no one is even trying to assassinate Biden/Kamala."
The remark by Musk came after another suspected assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
Amid the chaos, the US Secret Service sent an e-mail to The Independent, where they mentioned that they were aware of the comment made by Elon Musk. A spokesperson mentioned:
"The US Secret Service is aware of the social media post made by Elon Musk and as a matter of practice, we do not comment on matters involving protective intelligence."
On Monday, they revealed that they have been investigating the now-removed tweet by the businessman, who has been a vocal supporter of Trump. However, they didn't confirm if they had contacted Musk yet.
Meanwhile, netizens flooded the internet with their opinions about the Secret Service being aware of the remark.
A user tweeted, "Probably the stupidest thing he could’ve possibly said & that’s saying something."
"Sadly billionaires never face consequences for their actions," wrote another netizen.
While many criticized the businessman for his comment and even urged the US Secret Service to arrest him, Elon Musk earned some support too.
"I’m not seeing a threat in what he said. Can someone explain?" commented a netizen.
Another user wrote, "There were quicker on this… than on the two assassination attempts."
A statement from the White House described Elon Musk's controversial remark as "irresponsible"
As mentioned, Elon Musk has been an open supporter and ally of former President Donald Trump. BBC reported that Trump also promised to let him operate a "government efficiency commission."
Under these circumstances, his recent remark didn't sit well with a lot of netizens, who claimed that it was an attempt to incite violence. BBC shared a statement issued by the White House after the controversial remark was made. In the statement, they wrote:
"Violence should only be condemned, never encouraged or joked about..."
They further described the comment as "irresponsible." BBC also contacted the US Secret Service, who mentioned that they would investigate any matter related to their protectees.
After deleting the tweet, Musk shared another post on September 16, where he wrote:
"Turns out that jokes are WAY less funny if people don’t know the context and the delivery is plain text."
In another tweet, he added:
"One lesson I've learned is that just because I say something to a group and they laugh doesn't mean it's going to be all that hilarious as a post on X."
As of now, it is unclear if any action will be taken.
