On Thursday, November 28, The Tonight Show star Jimmy Fallon appeared on NBC's Thanksgiving Day Parade telecast. However, he left viewers perplexed, when he stopped by to promote his new Christmas album, Holiday Seasoning, and talk with hosts Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie while sporting sunglasses.
The viewers were confused by this because the interview took place in the rainy weather of New York City. While doing the same, he said sarcastically:
"It's so bright here."
Fallon then attempted to keep the mood up during the brief interview by dancing around while performing Jump in the Line (Shake, Senora).
Following this, netizens flocked to X to express their opinion after quickly assuming that the singer was attempting to hide any indication of a "bender" from the previous evening. One X user directly claimed that he was allegedly drunk:
“Drunk Jimmy Fallon rocking shades during a clouded rainstorm…,” wrote one user.
Others also shared the same sentiment. One said that it looked like he had a “blackout” the previous day, while another one said that he gave a “worst lip-synching performance”, referring to his alleged lip-synching video from the parade which went viral.
“Jimmy Fallon was clearly on a bender and woke up and proceeded to show up at the parade,” joked another user.
“Sunglasses on an overcast day is a dead giveaway,” claimed one X user said.
“Jimmy Fallon just had one of the worst lip synching performances of all time,” another netizen said.
On the other hand, some came in his support and said that he looked "cool" wearing the shades. One user said that he was "trending" due to his outfit.
"Jimmy Fallon became an instant trending topic thanks to his unusual choice of ensemble at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday," wrote one user.
"Jimmy Fallon looks cool in sunglasses! Good seeing him... at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 2024!" said another netizen.
Jimmy Fallon participated in the parade despite having a “golfer’s elbow”
During the event, Jimmy Fallon was spotted being asked questions by the Today hosts, Kotb and Guthrie. However, the Saturday Night Live alum's ability to hear the hosts was disrupted when the ETSU marching band moved behind him, bringing the interview to a sudden halt.
He didn't respond to the hosts' attempt to ask him a fan question as he couldn't hear them properly. Before leaving, Fallon stated the same. Then as he got ready to march in the parade, the Today hosts handled the situation flawlessly and moved on.
However, despite telling the People Magzine that he allegedly had a golfer's elbow from waving in the three-hour parade in previous years, Fallon rode on one of the famous floats for the 10th time despite the rain.
In an exclusive interview with the magazine on November 28, Fallon revealed that he saw a doctor to find out the cause of the elbow ache he has been experiencing for the past year. Fallon then stated in the interview:
“[The doctor] said, ‘I think you have golfer's elbow’ and I was like, ‘There's no way.’ I don't really golf that much — I golf four, five times a year or something — I go, but maybe I think I got it from waving.”
On the other hand, as per The Sun's November 28 report, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade was also briefly disrupted by the protesters. For the second consecutive year, pro-Palestine demonstrators disrupted the parade, resulting in several arrests by the New York Police Department.
Additionally, due to the cold weather, parade participants were left stranded in the rain, and the floats and balloons seemed to float closer to the ground than usual.
