Roblox has set a record of the highest-ever concurrent users with 47.4 million in Quarter 3 of 2025. This happened amid a lawsuit filed against the company over child safety concerns.
Roblox is a gaming platform launched in 2006 that lets users create their own games and play online with others worldwide. Although it has been around for many years, its popularity surged in 2025, driven mainly by games like Grow a Garden and Steal a Brainrot.
On Monday, August 25, the platform's strategy consultant, James Purrell, posted on his LinkedIn account. He shared a graph showing the increase in concurrent users and announced that they had reached the highest number ever for a gaming platform. Purrell wrote:
"...Roblox reach 47.4M total concurrent users. That beats their July record of 32.69M - and puts them ahead of Steam's 41.2M record 🚀 (the steam record is specifically ON steam and not in the games (they don't track that)). Now it is officially the largest gaming platform by concurrent users and also holds the record for highest CCU game in the world."

People online have now reacted to this, as one X user wrote:
Many users mentioned the platform being sued for allegedly enabling predators:
James Purrell also addressed the lawsuit against the company regarding child safety in his LinkedIn post. He admitted that they need to do better to ensure more safety for minors from predators.
More about the lawsuit against Roblox and the company's response

According to Complex, the attorney general of the state of Louisiana filed a lawsuit against Roblox on August 15. It alleged that the gaming platform "has and continues to facilitate the distribution of child s*xual abuse material and the s*xual exploitation of Louisiana’s children."
The lawsuit accused the company of enabling the exploitation of minors and maintaining an environment that allows predators to operate easily. It also states that the issue is not limited to Louisiana but affects the entire country.
Shortly after the lawsuit was filed, the gaming platform issued a statement on its website on August 15, calling the claims and allegations "erroneous."
"Roblox as a policy does not comment on pending litigation. However, the company would like to address erroneous claims and misconceptions about our platform, our commitment to safety, and our overall safety track record."
The statement offered a comprehensive overview of the gaming platform's guidelines and safety procedures. It also shared,
"While 64% of the user base is now 13 or over, the platform has rigorous safety features built in, and its policies are purposely stricter than those found on social networks and other user-generated content platforms."
The statement also said that the platform works with "law enforcement, government agencies, mental health organizations, and parental advocacy groups" to create a safer environment for children.
