Actress Amanda Seales recently commented on the death of 21-year-old college student Trey Reed, who was found hanging from a tree at Delta State University campus in Cleveland, Mississippi. The body of the student, whose real name was Demartravion Reed, was discovered by campus police at 7 am on September 15, 2025. Michael Peeler, the Chief of Police at Delta State University, stated that the authorities had not found any evidence of foul play at that time during a subsequent press conference. Following this, Amanda Seales took to her Instagram to share her opinion about Trey Reed's death, suggesting that he died as a result of lynching. She added that everyone "who has desired a semblance of civility and humanity" should be furious about his death, adding:"The body of a young Black man named Trey Reed, a 21-year-old student at the predominantly white Delta State College in Mississippi, was found hanging from a tree, his arm broken and his leg broken. We should all be furious. And I don't mean all Black people, I mean anybody who has desired a semblance of civility and humanity in this country."In the video, she asked people to uplift Trey Reed and other Black people who were victims of lynching, inviting everyone to honor them "with the same fervor that you have honored the life of an individual who did not honor the life of anyone who did not think like him." While she didn't mention any names, the "individual" she alluded to could be conservative activist Charlie Kirk, who died in a fatal shooting on September 10, 2025."May we lift up Trey and every other Black individual who has been lynched in the myriad ways that this nation manages to find to do so. Please reflect this evening, and tomorrow start your day honoring the life of Trey and all those who came before him with the same fervor that you have honored the life of an individual who did not honor the life of anyone who did not think like him," Seales said.
