As per CBS News, she has been convicted of first-degree murder after deliberation, first-degree murder of a child by a person in a position of trust, tampering with a deceased human body, and tampering with physical evidence.

Stauch pleaded not guilty by using the defense of insanity. She claimed that she ended up killing Gannon during a "psychotic break" that was the result of trauma from being emotionally, s*xually, and physically abused when she was a child.

Letecia was reportedly diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. Therapist Rona Niederhauser gave testified during a hearing and stated that Letecia did not show any signs of being a threat to herself or to others. Niederhauser further confirmed that she was well aware of her surroundings.

Law enforcement officials believed that Letecia Stauch reported Gannon missing on January 27, 2020, a few hours after murdering him. Several people volunteered to look for the missing child near Colorado Springs. Investigating officers later realized that they were being misled in the case.

It was further revealed that Letecia committed the gruesome act when her then-husband was not in town, and her children were not home. In fact, when Gannon's younger sister Laina came home that day, Letecia Stauch made her wait outside.

Prosecutor Dave Young said:

“She makes Laina stay outside because she’s got work to do.”

The defense team claimed that the defendant was living with dissociative identity disorder. Jurors were shown the video where she spoke to medical experts regarding her mental illness.

Dr. Jackie Grimmett said:

“The alters present themselves to you. You don’t create them, and you don’t name them kind of whimsically.”

As per Law & Crime, Letecia reportedly told Grimmett that she had several personalities named "Taylor, Tecia, Jasmine, and Jasper." A video was shown to jurors where Letecia admitted to killing her stepson, while she spoke to famous serial killer psychiatrist Dr. Dorothy Lewis.
