Chandler Halderson, 25, was found guilty of murdering his parents Bart and Krista Halderson in the summer of 2021. Halderson was also found guilty of lying to law enforcement about kidnapping, mutilating, and hiding the victims' bodies in various locations. Authorities used his snapchat location to link him to his parents' disappearance, and the then 23-year-old was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

The prosecution alleged that Halderson killed his parents on July 1, 2021, after his father learned that he had been lying about attending Madison Area Technical College, which was just one of the lies that he had been telling everyone for a long time. The college dropout even lied about working for SpaceX, being a police scuba diver, and working at the American Family Insurance.

According to reports, Chandler Halderson is currently serving his sentence at the Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun, Wisconsin.

Evidence presented during Chandler Halderson's trial revealed that bone pieces were found in the fireplace of his parents' home

A Dane County jury convicted Chandler Halderson of eight felony counts in January 2022 for the murder and mutilation of his mother, Krista Halderson, 53, and father, Bart Halderson, 50. Additionally, he was found guilty of lying to the law enforcement about their whereabouts when he reported them missing in July of the year before, just before the Fourth of July weekend.

Halderson reported that his parents went missing after leaving their Oak Springs Circle home to go to their family cabin for the holiday on July 1, 2021. The following day, authorities in Cottage Grove, where Chandler was allegedly spotted driving his car in reverse "with the rear hatch open in a field near a wooded area," discovered a human torso.

Authorities asserted that Chandler Halderson fatally shot his father in the back of the head and dismembered his body before disposing of his remains in a Cottage Grove forested area. Then, he reportedly told authorities a lie, claiming that his parents had disappeared after going on a weekend trip for the Fourth of July.

Bart was killed hours before he was scheduled to meet with his younger son's college officials to discuss the 23-year-old's status at the school. Authorities believe the father found out that Halderson had not attended classes for more than a semester. Moreover, police reportedly found Krista's remains in the neighboring town of Roxbury six days later. By then, Chandler Halderson had already been arrested.

According to Law & Crime, during multiple interviews with the couple's friends, family, and neighbors, investigators were able to place Halderson at the rural property where Bart's remains were discovered. They further used his girlfriend's Snapchat to place him in a remote location where, upon conducting a search, his mother's remains were found.

During his trial, evidence presented to the jury revealed that at least 200 fragments of human bones, including facial and knee bones as well as pieces of human skulls, were discovered in the ashes taken from the fireplace at the couple's residence in Dane County. The accused resided in the same house.

Chandler Halderson initially pleaded not guilty on all charges. At this trial, the defense rested their case without calling any witnesses to the stand. The then 23-year-old was eventually convicted of two counts each of first-degree intentional homicide, mutilating a corpse, hiding a corpse, and falsifying information about a missing person and was handed life in prison without the possibility of parole.

According to reports, Halderson is now serving his sentence at the Dodge Correctional Institution in Waupun, Wisconsin.
