The action-adventure-comedy movie, The Lost City, was filmed entirely in the Dominican Republic.

In The Lost City, Abigail Fairfax kidnaps renowned romance author Loretta and transports her to an unidentified island in the Atlantic. The action-comedy features some gorgeous scenery, such as lush forests, a rumbling volcano, caves, and a majestic waterfall. The majority of the movie's exterior sequences were filmed in the Dominican Republic's Samana province, with the exception of the underwater scenes, which were shot at Pinewood Studios in the Dominican Republic, and the CGI volcano.

Daniel Radcliffe plays a wealthy antagonist in the archaeological adventure film, which also stars Sandra Bullock, Channing Tatum and Brad Pitt. The characters in the Adam Nee and Aaron Nee-directed movie can be found in a number of settings, including beaches and caves, depending on what the plot requires. There are a lot of trees because this adventure is taking place in the jungle.

The project was first announced in October 2020. Bullock joined as producer and star, Tatum joined in December, and the rest of the ensemble was revealed the following year. On March 25, 2022, Paramount Pictures released the movie in theaters around the country. In contrast to a $68–74 million budget, it made over $190 million globally and earned generally favorable reviews from reviewers.

Why was The Lost City shot in the Dominican Republic?

The Dominican Republic has historically been one of the most productive filming locations, particularly for Hollywood productions. The whole filming of "The Lost City" took place in the island nation. According to sources, filming began in May 2021 and continued through August 16 of that same year. The Dominican Republic, the second-largest island country in the Antilles, has a rich cultural past on display. "A One-Way Ticket," directed by Agliberto Melendez, was the first entirely domestic feature film (Un Pasaje de Ida).

Numerous projects, including "The Godfather" trilogy and the "Pirates of the Caribbean" film series have been filmed in the country. It is a preferred option for producers and filmmakers for a number of reasons.

First off, because of its colonial heritage, the culture is predominantly European in focus. The island's spectacular topography includes jungles, rivers, a small peak, and the seas. The productions also receive a 25% transferable tax credit on eligible expenses. Due to the astounding currency exchange rate, it is more than cost-effective.

Portillo, West Grove (The Jungle)

After fleeing Daniel Radcliffe's Fairfax in The Lost City, Sandra Bullock's Loretta and Channing Tatum's Alan frequently run through the forest, scale cliffs, and hide as they make their way to town. While the jungle setting is located beyond the white sand, the majority of the forest sequences were shot in Portillo, which is well known for its beach and is a part of the Las Terrenas coast. West Grove, a coconut plantation, served as the location for the excavation site and compound used to depict Abigail Fairfax.

Altos de Chavon (The Village)

Loretta and Alan get closer throughout The Lost City, and after their initial escape from Fairfax, they dance together in the nearby town. The hotel scene, when the young couple unwinds and spends some time together, was filmed in the Altos de Chavón town, which was based on settlements from the 16th century in the Mediterranean. The Dominican Republic's Casa de Campo resort is not far from Altos de Chavón.

Salto de Socoa, Los Haitises National Park (The Waterfall)

Salto de Socoa, a waterfall region in Los Haitises National Park, is used as the backdrop for the scene where Loretta finds Kalaman's tomb. The jungle engulfs the waterfall itself, and the water cascades into a little pond. A valley and adjacent settlements provide for a beautiful vista in Salto de Socoa.

Iguabonita Cave, Scrape Park (The Lost City Cavern)

Loretta and Alan make their way out of a cave before being discovered by Beth, Loretta's manager, after leaving Kalaman's tomb and running out of the tunnels and waterfall. It makes for a stunning photograph as they wade through the water with the cavern entrance towering behind them. Iguabonita Cave and the caves in Los Haitises National Park were both used to film this scene. While on the island, Pinewood Studios, which has a water tank, was used to film the underwater scenes in which Loretta and Alan swim toward the boat.

The beach scene where Alan and Loretta are seen at the conclusion of The Lost City, as well as the moment when Alan is portrayed riding a horse, were both shot in Las Terrenas, in the Samana province. With its sandy beaches, azure seas, and palm trees, the area is the epitome of a tranquil getaway.
