The most popular WWE superstar in history is often considered as the greatest of all time. Stone Cold Steve Austin is a true wrestling icon that single-handedly changed the course of wrestling. He gave us iconic moments that will constantly be replayed on the WWE network for decades to come.

He’s the one legend that no fans have a bad word to say about, he’s generally universally loved. In a career that spanned over a decade, Austin took the company to new heights and ushered in the Attitude Era.

Despite his unrivaled popularity, wrestling is not the only thing that defines Steve Austin. The man has done a lot, experienced a lot and said a lot. The WWE Hall of Famer may have been on our screens for years but there’s a lot we still don’t know about the rattlesnake.

#5 He had his first beer at 14

The badass Stone Cold Steve Austin defined the Attitude Era, he was the epitome of the TV-14 era and many hardcore fans idolize him for what he did in their childhood. Stone Cold Steve Austin chugging a beer, with half of it going down his top, is an iconic picture in wrestling history. Many thought that was just part of his gimmick, but legend would have it that Steve Austin’s love for beer runs deeper than wrestling.

The rattlesnake actually had his first beer at the age of 14 with his stepfather and after that, he continued his obsession with the drink throughout his college days. The former WWF champion now has his own beer called the Broken Skull IPA. Funnily enough, a beer company also named a beer after him in Manitoba, Canada. I guess his obsession with beer will run deep for generations to come.

#4 He wanted to become a gym teacher

Believe it or not, wrestling wasn’t always the dream for Stone Cold Steve Austin. In fact, the WWE Hall of Famer had strong aspirations to be a gym teacher after college. However, seeing as he was a few credits from earning a degree in physical education, that dream was cut short early. Because of that, he dropped out of college claiming he didn’t want to go into further education because he was tired of accounting and math classes.

His first job after college involved physical labour in a loading dock, he then went on to pursue wrestling. Who knows, if Austin had majored in PE and got that gym teacher role, we might not have had the Attitude Era.

#3 His half-brother is Jamie McBride

Yeah Stone Cold Steve Austin himself has made a little splash in Hollywood, but nothing like his half-brother Jamie McBride. If the name doesn’t ring a bell, the face and his roles certainly will. McBride has featured in many high-profile silver screen productions such as; Desperate Housewives, Ugly Betty, Everybody Hates Chris, NYPD Blue and the Transformers. Perhaps this connection has opened a few doors for Austin in the acting.

Austin has since then admitted he’s not particularly close with his half-brother, but hey, I guess they’re both pretty busy men.

#2 He’s been married four different times

Maybe his obsession with beer got in the way or his fame was too much to handle, but Stone Cold Steve Austin has amazingly been married four times. He first married Kathryn Burrhus in 1990 before his rise to fame, but he divorced her before his WCW career, in 1992. In the same year, he then went on to wed Lady Blossom and that went on to be his second longest marriage, of 7 years.

A year later in 2000, right in the middle of his peak as a performer, Stone Cold made Debra Marshall the apple of his eye for 3 years. As he seemingly retired from wrestling, Austin decided to marry again, this is his one marriage that hasn’t ended in divorce yet, the current lucky woman is Kristin Austin.

#1 Legally changed his name to Steve Austin

Stone Cold was born in Austin, Texas

I know it’s hard to believe, but Stone Cold’s name wasn’t always Steve Austin. He was actually born as Steve James Anderson but later took the name of his stepfather and became Steve Williams. The rattlesnake’s government name was then known as Steve Williams, but after years of being referred to as Austin, he legally changed his name to Steve Austin in 2007.

His Wikipedia page now officially refers to him as Stone Cold Steve Austin, something the WWE trademarked for him. It’s no longer a gimmick for Austin, he really is Stone Cold Steve Austin.
