What's the story?

As long as he's still in relatively good shape, there will always be rumors of a CM Punk to this promotion or that promotion as long as the man is around.

Ringsidenews.com revealed on the Wrestling Observer Radio show that All Elite Wrestling has reached out to the Voice of the Voiceless for a possible role with the new promotion.

In case you missed it . . .

All Elite Wrestling is really trying to ramp up in order to be a serious threat to WWE. While it will likely take a lot longer than they are hoping, they are apparently pulling out all the stops they can to make that dream come true sooner rather than later.

CM Punk hasn't really had success in his first two professional MMA bouts, losing both under the UFC banner.

Since a lot of people, save for Punk himself, feel that his time in the UFC octagon is likely over, a lot of attention has turned to what is next for Punk.

The heart of the matter

The Young Bucks and Cody tried to recruit CM Punk for an appearance at All In last fall but were unsuccessful in doing so.

The Wrestling Observer Radio show noted that it didn't seem like Punk was ready to make any kind of return to the wrestling business right now. He's still under contract to the UFC as of now. Dave Meltzer discussed a possible marriage between Punk and AEW.

“CM Punk does not seem like he wants to do anything with pro wrestling. He has plenty of opportunities. I know he hates WWE and he has every right to after that lawsuit. That doesn’t mean he should hate New Japan and AEW and all that.”

He also mentioned that even though he may say he's done with the world of professional wrestling, it hasn't stopped official from AEW from contacting him.

“The reality is he’s still under contract with UFC somehow even though they’ll never use him again, but you know he doesn’t seem to want to be around wrestling. If he doesn’t, more power to him. If he wants to be around wrestling he can call them. They’ve already called him, I know that. He just doesn’t want to be around wrestling.”

Several reports, including one from MMAFighting.com, have also mentioned that Punk will now be a color commentary for the CFFC MMA promotion.

It will also lead to some commentary work for Punk on UFC Fight Pass, so those commitments will take up a lot of Punk's time in the near future.

What's next?

CM Punk might truly be done with professional wrestling, no matter how hard people may try to recruit him for any possible role. He seems to be content with his new role in the UFC, especially since he's likely better off on the microphone talking about the fights rather than participating in them.

All Elite Wrestling can do all they want in order to coax Punk back into wrestling, but maybe his claims of being done really mean that he is indeed finished with pro wrestling.
