What’s the story?
Eighteen years ago, actor David Arquette won the WCW World Heavyweight championship in a moment that’s still talked about today. Many wrestling fans and critics believe that this helped seal WCW's fate in professional wrestling.
Eighteen years later, Arquette has decided to step back inside the world of professional wrestling and clarifies why he chose to step inside the squared circle once again.
In case you didn't know...
Actor David Arquette was doing promotions for his wrestling film, Ready To Rumble, which featured the likes of Sting and Diamond Dallas Page. Obviously, the movie was tied to World Championship Wrestling (WCW) thus Arquette appearing on Nitro wasn’t a surprise.
However, David Arquette pinning Eric Bischoff in a tag team match to win the WCW World Heavyweight Championship was a huge shocker to many fans and critics. Arquette has stated previously that he wasn’t a fan of the idea as he knew it would draw instant heat; however, Vince Russo strongly believed that Arquette being the top champion would be a great way to get eyes on the product.
Arquette held the title for twelve days until the Slamboree pay-per-view on May 7, 2000, where he defended the championship against Jarrett and Page in a Triple Threat Cage match. In classic Vince Russo booking, Arquette turned on Page and gave the victory to Jarrett.
The heart of the matter
Arquette has been very active on the independent wrestling scene since his return back in July. The actor noted that his return to wrestling is not a publicity stunt as the former WCW World Heavyweight champion grew tired of fans giving him a hard time for his WCW title win 18 years ago.
TMZ caught up with Arquette again and asked the 47-year-old if his goal was to head to the WWE eventually:
"No, WWE is not the goal," Arquette confirmed. "I mean, I love WWE and I would love to do anything with them, ever. No, my main goal is getting some respect. That really is what it's about."
Arquette was also asked if he could pick anyone right now to have a match with, who would it be? His answer, the man he’s previously called out, “The American Nightmare” Cody:
"It would be Cody Rhodes," Arquette responded. "I mean he is one of the best in the world. So, if I can go toe-to-toe with him I think that would be a good show."

Arquette has been wrestling regularly in Championship Wrestling from Hollywood (CWFH). Expect to see the actor on Impact's upcoming One Night Only PPV in November as he teamed with RJ City to defeat the team of Halal Beefcake (Idris Abraham & Joe Coleman) in Windsor, Ontario, Canada.
