What's the story?

Japanese wrestling legend and Deathmatch icon Atsushi Onita has recently claimed that he has been offered to make an appearance for WWE next year, as part of the company's biggest annual pay-per-view, that is, Wrestlemania 34.

In case you didn't know...

Atsushi Onita is former Japanese wrestler and Mixed Martial Artist, who first made his debut in 1974 for AJPW, where he won the All Asia Tag Team Championship and also held the NWA International Championship. After spending almost over a decade in AJPW; Onita decided to retire due to him suffering several accumulated injuries. However, three years later he made his in-ring return for Pioneer Senshi.

After spending a few years in the MMA World and working for promotions such as FMW, Onita decided to start working as a freelancer in the world of Pro Wrestling in 1998. Since then Onita has worked as a freelancer and has become a Deathmatch icon, his matches against The Sheik, Terry Funk, Genichiro Tenyru are some of the standout bouts of the 60-year-old's career.

The heart of the matter

Atsushi Onita recently visited the Tokyo Sports newspaper in Tokyo, where he claimed that he has no plans on returning to Pro Wrestling, following his recent retirement at the Korakeun Hall (his seventh retirement overall).

In the later stages of the interview, Onita shockingly claimed that he got an offer from the WWE to make an appearance at Wrestlemania 34, which is all set to take place in New Orleans in 2018. The former FMW Brass Knuckles Heavyweight Champion also claimed that he is very happy regarding his current state and claimed that he will continue to pursue his dreams in the future.

"I will continue to pursue my dreams in the future and I will be ramped again."- Onita stated.

What's next?

Atsushi Onita has always been one of the most notorious characters in the world of wrestling but, seeing him arrive in WWE will certainly be a huge deal for both the Japanese wrestling scene and also the WWE. It will be interesting to note how this story unfolds next and if there are indeed any chances of seeing Onita in WWE anytime soon.

Author's Take

Atsushi Onita maybe 60 years old but till date, he remains as the king of Deathmatches and there is no doubt that he is more than capable of pulling off great matches inside the squared circle. Personally, I would absolutely love to see Onita in action for WWE in the near future, even though chances of it actually happening are very less.
