Impact News: Chris Adonis talks Impact Wrestling on his way out of the door

C
Chris Adonis has had multiple stints with WWE in his career already

What's the story?

Scott Fishman of Channel Guide Magazine recently sat down with Chris Adonis to discuss his time in Impact Wrestling in an interview that took place one day before Adonis announced on social media that he was leaving the company.

In case you didn't know...

Adonis had two stints in the WWE as "The Masterpiece" Chris Masters from 2005 to 2007 and 2009 to 2011. Though he never held a championship in the WWE, he was involved in many prominent feuds, particularly in his first run with the company.

The heart of the matter

Adonis was a part of Jeff Jarrett's Global Force Wrestling when they began to brand with Impact Wrestling in the middle of 2017, and he describes his run with the company as one where it, "kind of happened almost by accident".

He was optimistic about the company becoming more stable after the purchase by Anthem, along with Don Callis and Scott D'Amore being hired to the management team. He would expand on the need for stability in the quote below:

"There just needs to be some consistency. Consistency went out the window in the last year, but you couldn’t help that with all the changes. You just have to get some consistency going, which I think they are in route to doing. The sky is the limit."

Regarding his partnership with former Impact Global Champion Eli Drake, he didn't know him well at the start of the team. He didn't think highly of Drake at first, but once he got to know him, he found out that Eli was a really good guy.

"He worked really hard. I didn’t really know how hard until I’ve been around him. It gives me faith that when you work hard and come into your own that the opportunities can be there for you. Fast forward to now up until recently he was the world champion."

Adonis hoped that this partnership would evolve into something that would benefit both him and Drake, but it never panned out that way. On Saturday, 13 January, Adonis announced his departure from Impact Wrestling:

Fishman stated that Adonis still remains passionate about professional wrestling, and after 16 years in the business, he doesn't show any signs of stopping anytime soon.

What's next?

It is unknown what is next for Adonis after his stint with Impact Wrestling, but stay tuned to Sportskeeda for further updates on his next stop.

Author's take

Eli Drake is my favorite wrestler in Impact Wrestling today and I thought adding Chris Adonis as an ally was great. I think it worked even better than Drake's pairing with Tyrus.

I wouldn't rule out a third run with the WWE because Masters is very talented, and they always say the third time is a charm. At some point in his career, Adonis (Masters) should have some WWE gold around his waist.
