What's the story?

According to various reports, both Impact Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling are currently interested in offering a contract to Lucha Underground star Brian Cage. Veteran Pro Wrestling journalist Dave Meltzer confirmed that they are indeed looking forward to signing the 265-pound wrestler.

In case you didn't know...

Brian Cage is currently one of the best wrestlers in the current Indie scene. He is also a former Lucha Underground Gift of the Gods Champion. The 33-year old has previously worked under the WWE banner as part of the company's FCW promotion.

Cage is mostly known for his work with PWG and Lucha Underground. The former PWG Tag Team Champion has also worked for Impact Wrestling during 2012, 2013, and 2014.

In 2015, he made his debut for Mexican promotion, Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. Earlier this year, Cage also wrestled for Pro Wrestling Noah which is in a working relationship with Impact Wrestling alongside AAA.

The heart of the matter

During the latest episode of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that Impact Wrestling is hugely interested in signing Cage. There have also been several talks regarding the former FSW Heavyweight Champion signing with the American promotion in the near future.

However, Meltzer has also claimed that Cage is currently on the radar of top Japanese promotion NJPW. Their management seemed to be very impressed with Cage's incredible performance against Katsuhiko Nakajima for the GHC Heavyweight Title at Pro Wrestling Noah earlier this year.

What's next?

At this point in time, it will be interesting to note if either NJPW or Impact Wrestling decide to offer a contract to Cage and sign him on a long-term basis. However, his focus will be on the Independent scene. He is set to make a trip to Australia in early 2018 to preparele for Aussie promotion in World Series Wrestling.

Author's take

Brian Cage can be a perfect fit in NJPW and their Never Openweight division. He is also known for his hard-hitting and seeing him compete against the likes of Minoru Suzuki, Tomohiro Ishii, Hirooki Goto will certainly make for fascinating viewing.
