National Wrestling Alliance announcer Jim Cornette has resigned from his position as a color commentator.

Cornette's resignation comes hours after the release of the latest episode of NWA Powerrr, where he made the following statements during the match between NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis and Trevor Murdoch.

"Trevor Murdoch is the only person who can strap a bucket of fried chicken to his back and ride a motor scooter across Ethiopia."

Cornette's comments were considered offensive to many, resulting in NWA Vice President David Lagana issuing an apology and re-uploading the episode without Cornette's remarks.

The following is an excerpt from the press release the NWA issued regarding Cornette's resignation:

Effective immediately: Jim Cornette has resigned from the National Wrestling Alliance.
As an announcer on the November 19th edition of NWA Power, Jim made remarks during a singles match between Nick Aldis and Trevor Murdoch that were both offensive and do not meet the high standards of decency and good faith of the National Wrestling Alliance.

The statement from NWA also included promises to establish new procedures for reviewing their content going forward.

Cornette's only response thus far has been a tweet made Wednesday morning asking if anyone had "heard any good jokes lately".

It remains to be seen whether he issues any apology or statement in the wake of the action taken by the NWA.
