What's the story?

UFC Heavyweight veteran Cain Velasquez is now officially a part of the Pro Wrestling industry, as the former two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion has signed a contract with popular Mexican promotion Lucha Libre AAA.

In case you didn't know...

Cain Velasquez first started out in MMA back in 2006 at Strikeforce, winning his first fight by TKO against Jesse Fujarczyk. Shortly afterward, Velasquez made his UFC debut at UFC 83 against Brad Morris and marked his first promotional win via TKO in the first round as well.

In 2010, Cain Velasquez won his first championship in the UFC, winning the UFC Heavyweight Title by defeating then-champion Brock Lesnar at UFC 121. This was also yet another first-round TKO win for Velasquez.

After an absence of almost three years, Velasquez returned to the Octagon earlier this year against Francis Ngannou and ended up losing his return fight via knockout in the very first round.

The heart of the matter

Prior to his recent return to the UFC, former two-time UFC Heavyweight Champion, Cain Velasquez was reportedly interested in making a move over to the WWE and UFC veteran was also recently spotted training at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

However, instead of opting to sign with WWE, Velasquez has now signed a contract with Mexican promotion AAA and will be appearing at the company's biggest annual event, Triplemania XXVII.

AAA took to Twitter and announced the signing the of Velasquez, who was also present at the Triplemania Press Conference in Mexico City where he was challenged to a match by AAA stars Psycho Clown, Texano and Pentagon Jr.

What's next?

AAA is also in a working relationship with Tony Khan and The Elite's newly inaugurated promotion, All Elite Wrestling and The Young Bucks also very recently made a surprise appearance for the Mexican promotion as well. Therefore, the possibility of Velasquez appearing for AEW could be very high.

However, as of right now, the former UFC Champion will look forward to making his next big appearance at Triplemania on the 3rd of August in Mexico City.
