Asian Games 2018 Sepak Takraw

Native to Southeast Asia, Sepak takraw (Kick ball) is a three player game, played in a volleyball styled court where the players must use their feet, head, knees and chest to touch the ball. It is particularly popular in Malaysia, where it is locally known as ‘Sepak raga’, while in Thailand it is popularised as ‘Takraw’.


Inclusion of Sepak takraw in the Asian Games dates back to the 1990 Asian Games, when it was first played at Beijing, China, and has since been included in the following seven editions of the Games.


Venue and Schedule

In the 2018 Asian Games, Sepak takraw action will be seen at the Ranau Sport Hall, situated in Palembang. The event is set to take place from 19th August to 1st September.


Events

In men’s category, four events will be observed while women’s will include two events. The men’s events consists of Regu, Quadrant, Team doubles and Team Regu. Meanwhile, women will be seen competing in Quadrant and Team Regu events.

Apart from the host nation Indonesia, 14 countries will be seen competing in the event. The participating nations are - China, India, Iran, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam, both in the men’s and women’s events. It will be the debut appearance for the Pakistan team.
