Harry Kane was the second highest scorer in the league last season

Midweek, Manchester United recieved a fatal blow to their Champions League dreams as a 3-2 away defeat to Wolfsburg will see them fall back to the Europa League. Manchester United were able to score their only goal when Juan Mata layed forward an excellent through ball which Anthony Martial didnt fail to convert with his right foot. But, the second goal for Manchester United was an 82nd minute own goal by Wolfsburg’s Joshua Guilavogui. United struggled to create chances but failed in creativity and also was reminded of the lack of an ace striker who can gurantee the ball in the net.The Louis Van Gaal process is on, but it seems that there are areas that United need to strengthen. And they definitely need to look for strikers, having had a frustrating deficiency of goals so far this season. They might also have to look for a midfielder, one with pace and creativity and quick thinking capabilities. A pacy winger might also be of great help.Let us have a look at some of the potential players who might make it to the United ranks and reward them back their lost glory.

#1 Harry Kane

Harry Kane was the second highest scorer in the league last season

Harry Kane has scored 8 goals for Tottenham this season, appearing in 15 matches. However Harry Kane was the second highest scorer last season with 21 goals to his name. He had burst on the scene right from the beginning of the previous season. But this time around it has been harder for him to find the net and his name wont be found among the top four scorers of the league. He sits fifth in that list with Arsenal’s Giroud. Kane has always preferred staying with Tottenham but one never knows, he might just as well come to Old Trafford.

Recent reports from the Daily Star and other sources suggest that Manchester United are preparing a £50m deal for Harry Kane to sway him to Old Trafford. Van Gaal admires the 22 year old Englishman who is a cerebral striker and would be happy to have him in his squad.

United can hopefully start to get their goals coming if Harry Kane partners up with Anthony Martial.

#2 Jamie Vardy

Jamie Vardy is 28 years of age and is currently in his best form

Reports and rumours are around that Manchester United might go for Jamie Vardy. Currently in the Premier League no other striker can offer a greater promise than the Foxes star.

Jamie Vardy has scored 14 goals in 15 matches, and has already broken Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s record of scoring consecutively in 10 league matches. Vardy broke the record after thirteen years. Vardy and Mahrez are the key players behind Leicester’s form this season.

The raw forward moving Vardy is just what United need at the moment with his vigour to push forward with brute force and his talent of scoring goals at every possible opportunity making him a devastating weapon that any club will desire.

According to Dave Armitage in the Daily star, the Foxes are trying to bind him to the club till 2019 with a salary of £90,000 a week. But nonetheless we need to wait and watch what happens when Old Trafford comes calling.

#3 Edinson Cavani

Though recent reports suggest that Edinson Cavani wishes to stay at Paris Saint Germain, United have been pondering over the possibilities of landing the Uruguayan striker at Old Trafford.

Louis Van Gaal has often complained about the fact that his squad lacks tall players which makes them unable to play with long balls. For the very specific reason Fellaini has sometimes been played as a forward. He has been brought in at later stages of the game, thus making him a utility player. Though it cant be said that Fellaini has never clicked for United, a fresh attacking line up with someone of the stature of Edinson Cavani might make wonders for the club.

Cavani has scored 9 times so far this season from his 13 appearances for the French league champions.

#4 Breel Embolo

Europe’s top clubs are after this 18 year old FC Basel wonderkid. Manchester United faces competition from clubs like Barcelona, Juventus and Arsenal. Manchester United had sent scouts to monitor Embolo when Basel was playing against Fiorentina.

Louis Van Gaal is also apparently very keen on bringing the wonderkid to United. Being a versatile player Embolo can play as a striker and also as a winger. The highest market price for Embolo recently has been around 16 million euros.

This Cameroon born Swiss international has already has seven Swiss caps. Embolo has also won the Young Player of the Year Award for Basel in the year 2016. Quite a hopeful prospect for Manchester United.

#5 Julian Draxler

Julian Draxler for Wolfsburg

Some of Europe’s top clubs are after this 22 year old German who presently plys his trade for Wolfsburg. On Tuesday night’s clash with United, Draxler made the defense look foolish as he dribbled past it and set up a goal with an easy and sublime pass for Wolfsburg striker Vieirinha.

Tuesday night’s performance was ample proof that Draxler’s creative impetus is exactly what United need at the moment making him one of the most important potential transfer targets.

Earlier Arsenal were the favourites to take Draxler away from Schalke but interest has also been shown by Chelsea and Manchester City. Wolfsburg had bought him for £26 million much tot he dismay of the others.

Julian Draxler’s addition to the United ranks will surely boost up the confidence and creativity of the team up top.
