Best Goalkeepers at World Cup 2014

This World cup, apart from being witness to some very surprising exits has also been synonymous with some phenomenal goalkeeping. The level of goalkeeping seen in Brazil has been beyond human. Some goalkeepers have been so good that you can easily become a millionaire by starting a life insurance brand endorsed by them in their respective countries. We present to you, some incredible superhumans between the sticks at Brazil.

#6 Tim Howard (USA)

This man created the record for most saves in a World Cup match aginst Belgium. Though he made 16 saves but most of them were against a confused attack shooting madly right into his hands. Though credit is due to him for being the calm presence that he was and suporting USA defenders who made more than their share of mistakes but didnt get punished due to him.

#5 Rais MBolhi (Algeria)

This World Cup was nothing short of a rebirth for this Algerian keeper who unlike the keepers in this list was not well known before the cup and did not come into the World Cup with the confidence of a great season and a pile of records. However, after the World Cup he and his teammates have earned all-new respect. His saves against germany were almost miraculous in nature.

#4 Keylor Navas (Costa Rica)

Another keeper who came into the tournament having created a clean sheet record for Levante. Being the La Liga Goalkeeper of the season, excellence was already expected from him but he exceeded the expectatons in every match he played. He only conceded 2 goals from 5 matches before losing to Netherlands in the penalty shootout where Krul’s heroics overshadowed his brilliant shot-stopping for 90 minutes against the attack that thumped 5 past Spain.

#3 Vincent Enyeama (Nigeria)

The Nigerian keeper has been so good in the tournament that it was one of the biggest heartbreaks to see him lose against France and make the only mistake against Pogbas cross. After having a record-breaking season at Lille where he didnt concede a goal for 1062 minutes only to be teased by an own goal, he was almost flying in his Brazil matches. Being impeccable against Iran, he then frustrated Bosnia-Herzegovina to finally concede 3 against Argentina, where also he made many saves and was not supported at all by his defence.

#2 Guillermo Ochoa (Mexico)

When I first saw Ochoa making the impossible saves only one thing came to my mind And kids, in the summer of 2014, I decided to keep the goals for Mexico (Ted Mosby) . Jokes apart, whats even more surprising about this man is that he is currently a free agent. But that will change soon as many top clubs are queuing up to sign him. He was like the clone goalkeeper in the Nikes animated movie The last game in the match against Brazil and even Netherlands beat him after many impossible saves.

#1 Manuel Neuer (Germany)

The German Keeper who was recently called the Best goalkeeper in the world by the great Oliver Kahn recently and had the highest number of clean sheets in Bundesliga this season, continued to show in the World Cup why he is indeed regarded as one of the best keepers in the world right now. What makes him unique is that apart from being spontaneously brilliant and alert in saves, he has re-defined the role of a keeper. With his heroics against Algeria, and an excellent ability to distribute the ball with accurate passing, his role has been that of an extra defender or a sweeper. Add to that his penalty taking skills and Im waiting for the day when hell play as a midfielder.
