5 occasions when Indian spinners took 19 or more wickets in a Test

The legendary B.S. Chandrasekhar tore through the England batting line-up

#2 India vs New Zealand, 1976, Auckland

Erapalli Prasanna was the architect of one of India’s most memorable overseas wins

A victory on foreign soil for the Indian team was an even rare instance in the 1970s than it is today. So there had to be a remarkable performance that was required to make it happen and it was the spin trio of Erapalli Prasanna, B.S. Chandrasekhar and S. Venkataraghavan who put their hands up. The three of them went on to deliver a clean sweep in both innings picking up all 20 wickets in the match.

New Zealand batted first after winning the toss but were bundled out for 266 as Chandrasekhar, Prasanna and Venkat took 6, 3 and 1 respectively. A successful outing with the bat meant that India got a big 1st innings lead. The second innings was even worse for the Kiwis and they were bowled out for 215 mainly due to Prasanna’s 8 for 76; the other 2 went to Chandrasekhar. India completed the 68-run chase with consummate ease and registered a memorable overseas win
