Sehwag and Sachin shared on of the best opening partnerships in the history of Indian cricket. When a reporter asked Sehwag a few years into his career what the difference was between him and Sachin, he had the perfect reply.

Reporter: "What is the difference between you and Sachin?"

Sehwag: "Our bank balance."

#2 Sehwag hits back at Geoffery Boycott

Known for his big hitting, Sehwag took on Boycott when the latter called him a brainless batsman

Geoffrey Boycott, the former English cricketer once said that Virender Sehwag was one of the most talented batsmen he’d seen but also went on to add that the Nawab of Najafgarh was brainless with his batting.

Sehwag replied to that by saying, “Boycott can say what he wants. He once batted the whole day and hit just one four."

#3 Sehwag takes on Michael Clarke

Michael Clarke, who has been nicknamed 'Pup' by his Aussie teammates, wasn't spared by Sehwag either.

Sehwag went up to Clarke during the 2004 Test in Hyderabad when Clarke was sledging Tendulkar and to put an end to it he asked Clarke a simple question, "Your teammates call you Pup, right?", to which Clarke replied, “Ya mate”. Sehwag then added, “Which breed?”

This comment certainly put Clarke in his rightful place.

#4 Sehwag hits a six to get to 300 during the Multan Test

There is this other anecdote from the Multan Test in 2004 which has fascinated fans all over. When Sehwag was on 295, Tendulkar went up to him and said that he shouldn’t hit a six, to which Sehwag said, “If Saqlain Mushtaq comes on to bowl I will surely hit a six.”

Just as he said that, Mushtaq came on to bowl and Sehwag lofted him over long-on. The rest is etched in history as he became the first Indian to score a triple century.

#5 Sehwag on Vinoo Mankad

In 2006, when Dravid and Sehwag were en route to breaking Vinoo Mankad’s highest opening partnership of 413 while playing Pakistan, a reporter told Sehwag that he and Dravid could break the record. To which Sehwag said, “Who is Vinoo Mankad?”

The pair just fell three runs short on the record after making 410.

The next ball Sehwag hoisted the ball out of the stadium and the ball was lost and the umpires had to change the ball. Sehwag then went up to Snape and said, “We are alright for one hour now.”

During the 2003 Melbourne Test, when Sehwag was on 195 he was caught while attempting a six, Dravid went up to him and said, “You were just five singles away from a double century, you could have made it.” To which Sehwag said, “I just missed the six by just three yards."

This showed how much faith and belief he had in himself to clear the rope.
