Over the years, the English Premier League has witnessed some stunning goals by players. Heading the ball and winning aerial duels is difficult, but heading it into the back of the net is an even more difficult task.Quite a number of names pop up when you hear or read about headed goals. We take a look at some of the Premier League’s best headed goals in the past 22 years.

#10 Nicklas Bendtner: Arsenal vs Tottenham

There’s nothing like scoring in the derby, and Nicklas Bendtner did just that when Arsenal played Tottenham Hotspur in the North London Derby at the Emirates.

Coming on as s substitute, Bendtner scored the fastest goal in Premier League history by a substitute when he headed home a corner kick from Cesc Fabregas – less than two seconds after the restart.

The Dane towered over everyone in the box to fire home the cross.

#9 Fernando Torres: Chelsea vs Aston Villa

Fernando Torres, currently on loan at AC Milan, has scored many beautiful goals in his career.

One such goal came against Aston Villa in 2012. The match where in Aston Villa were thrashed 8-0, but not before Torres fired in a bulled of a header from 12 yards out.

It was the first goal of the match and Azpilicueta’s cross was met by Torres who made no mistake in directing the ball into the back of the net.

#8 Alan Shearer against Manchester United

Alan Shearer has scored some stunning goals, and the list couldn’t be complete without one of his famous headed goals.

The match in question took place in the 2003/04 season – Newcastle United vs Manchester United. But United eventually returned home winners.

Sir Alex Ferguson was sent to the stands for an altercation with the fourth official. Moments later Laurent Robert’s free kick was headed into the back of the net by Alan Shearer, despite claims of a push in the back of Mikael Silvestre.

#7 Luis Suarez: Liverpool vs West Brom

Luis Suarez scored his first hat-trick at Anfield against West Bromwich Albion. One of the goals included a stunning header from the edge of the box.

Reacting quickly to an Aly Cissokho cross, Suarez leaped majestically and headed the ball past West Brom’s helpless goalkeeper.

#6 Robin van Persie: Manchester United vs Arsenal

Who would have expected Robin van Persie to score against Arsenal again, and this time, celebrate like he eventually did?

Wayne Rooney took the corner and Van Persie rose the highest to meet the ball and direct it into the top corner, leaving most of the Arsenal faifthful dejected. What left them even more furious was the manner of Persie’s celebration.

His goal eventually turned out to be the only goal of the match.

#5 Didier Drogba: Chelsea vs Manchester United

A club legend returned to serve Chelsea one more time as Didier Drogba was signed on a one year contract in the summer of 2014. Going into the match with Diego Costa and Loic Remy injured, Drogba was given the charge of making the difference in this Chelsea side.

And Drogba did not disappoint as he scored an amazing header past David Se Gea in the 53rd minute of the game. And until the final few minutes of the match it looked set to be the only goal of the match. The match eventually ended at 1-1.

#4 Vincent Kompany: Manchester City vs Manchester United

The world must’ve thought it would either be Wayne Rooney or Carlos Tevez to fire in a goal and help their side take advantage. But all it took was Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany’s header in the first half of injury time to decide the match.

The goal turned out to be one the most important goals, as the title race went on till the very last day of the season with City clinching the title from Manchester United on a superior goal difference.

David Silva was the man who took the corner for City, and Kompany out-jumped Smalling, and rose the highest to meet the ball with his head and score past David De Gea.

#3 Danny Welbeck: Manchester United vs Stoke City

Manchester United youth product Danny Welbeck, now an Arsenal player, has scored some good goals in his playing career.

And he scored a stunning diving header from a Wayne Rooney cross in the first minute of the second half against Stoke City at Old Trafford.

#2 Rio Ferdinand: Manchester United vs Liverpool

Liverpool dominated the game from the start but lost the match right at the very end. United hadn’t even won a single corner until the 87th minute of the game.

The then England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson left his seat as a draw seemed a more likely result. But Rio Ferdinand had other ideas.

When the Red Devils got a free kick, Ferdinand leapt the highest in a crowded penalty area and headed the ball home despite Pepe Reina's best efforts to save the shot on goal.

#1 Thierry Henry: Arsenal vs Manchester United

Trailing for most part of the match, Arsenal needed to act quickly and get back into the game. Starting the game on the bench, Robin van Persie came on in the second half as a substitute and made his mark by equalising in the 83rd minute of the game.

It seemed as though Van Persie's goal would be the game's last goal and the match was headed towards a draw, but Thierry Henry had other ideas.

Three minutes into injury time, Henry rifled in a header past a helpless Edwin Van der Sar from an Emmanuel Eboue cross, and completed a remarkable comeback.
