#5 Saeed Al-Owairan

Iconic Arab striker Saeed Al-Owairan scored one of the World Cup’s best solo goals against Belgium in the 1994 edition of the tournament. The midfielder started out in his own half and raced towards the Belgium goal avoiding several defenders along the way and finally stuck the ball in the top of the net. The goal, which was listed as the sixth best in the Goal Of The Century rankings, won him plenty of acclaim and was named as one of the 22 best players of the 1994 World Cup.

#4 Roberto Baggio vs Czechoslovakia

The divine ponytail scored a brilliant solo goal for Italy against Czechoslovakia in the 1990 World Cup. Baggio came in from the left and goes into a one on one with the keeper after which he fired straight past him.

#3 Ryan Giggs v Arsenal

Mystical Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs scored one of the most memorable individual goals ever against Arsenal in the semi-finals of the 1999 FA Cup. The Welshman nutmegged the entire Arsenal defence consisting of Tony Adams, Nigel Winterburn, Lee Dixon and Steve Bold after which he scored past David Seaman and famously celebrated the goal by whipping off his jersey to reveal his hairy chest.

#2 Michael Owen v Argentina

Legendary English striker Michael Owen scored a cracker of an individual goal against Argentina in the 1998 World Cup when he was just a teenager. The Liverpool boy wonder outran Argentine defenders Ayala and Jose Chamot and fired the ball past Carlos Roa from the tip of the penalty box. That goal still serves as an inspiration for many young footballers and was voted as the third best goal in the history of England in 2013.

#1 Diego Maradona v England

Maradona’s first goal known as the Hand Of God against the Three Lions in the quarter finals of the 1986 World Cup may have been immersed in controversy but the second one was a real beauty. The Argentine legend began his 10 second 60m run after receiving a pass from Hector Enrique and managed to nutmeg Peter Beardsley, Peter Reid, Terry Butcher and Terry Fenwick before dribbling around Peter Shilton and smashing home. The goal is considered to be the greatest solo goal of all time and is popularly known as the ‘Goal Of The Century’ by fans.
