Hawaii Rainbow Warriors vs. Fresno State Bulldogs Prediction, Odds, Line, Spread, and Picks - November 5 | 2022 NCAA Football Season

Fresno State v UCLA
Bulldogs QB Jake Haener is one of the best MWC players in recent memory

The Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (2-7) will travel to California to take on the Fresno State Bulldogs (4-4) in the final game of the Week 10 slate. Hawaii has lost two in a row and four of their last five in what has been a season to forget for the Warriors.

The Wyoming Cowboys topped Hawaii 27-20 last Saturday. The two MWC teams went back and forth before Wyoming RB Dawaiian McNeely busted off a 61-yard touchdown to give the Cowboys a slight seven-point advantage.

Quarterback Andrew Peasley upped it to 14 points with a touchdown run of his own, effectively ending the game for the Warriors. Hawaii QB Brayden Schager threw for 205 yards and two scores against no turnovers.

Fresno State has strung together three straight wins, concluding with a 32-28 win over San Diego State. Three-year starting QB Jake Haener returned to the lineup, going 34-of-45 for 394 yards and three touchdowns against two interceptions. His final pass proved to be the dagger, a 37-yard strike to WR Nikko Remigio with 56 seconds remaining to give the Bulldogs the lead. Remigio was one of two Fresno State receivers to have at least ten receptions and 125 yards on the afternoon, joining teammate Zane Pope.

Tale of the Tape

The Hawaii Warriors are in year one of the Timmy Chang era. Chang was a trendsetter in his playing days, breaking the NCAA record for total yards in a career.

He pioneered the pass-heavy offense that Hawaii and later the late great Colt Brennan became famous for under June Jones. Unfortunately, for Chang, a player of his or Colt's caliber isn't strutting around the campus in Honolulu.

The Warriors attempt the most passes per game in the Mountain West but rank in the bottom third in completion percentage (53.5%) and TD passes per game (0.7). The run game is a nice change of pace for an anemic offense, averaging 4.3 yards a pop.

The Rainbow Warriors' defense is one of the worst units in the MWC, if not the country. They allow a conference-worst 435 yards and 6.7 yards per play. The issues stem from a run defense that allows an insane 228 rushing yards per game.

Jeff Tedford, who led the Fresno State Bulldogs from 2017-2019, is back at the helm after taking the last two seasons off due to health concerns. Potential future pro QB Jake Haener leads Tedford's offense that scores 26 points per game.

Wide receivers Jalen Cooper and Nikko Remigio have been among the best-receiving duos in the FBS, ranking in the top five in the MWC in both receptions and yards. Fresno's passing attack is ranked second in the conference in passing yards per game at 267.5. The Bulldogs only average 3.7 yards per rush attempt but still garnish 5.8 yards per play.

The Fresno State defense is stout, highlighted by a secondary that keeps opposing passers to a 56.7% completion percentage. They occasionally have issues with the ground game, but nothing that should sound the alarm against a below-average Hawaii team.

Hawaii Warriors vs. Fresno State Bulldogs Prediction

Fresno State should be able to run laps around the Warriors, but a four-touchdown spread is complex for anyone to cover.

The likelihood that the Bulldogs will dominate is high, but a backdoor cover for Hawaii should be on the table in the waning minutes of this matchup.

The smart move is taking the under, given the state of the Warriors' offense, and hoping Fresno takes their foot off the gas late.

Prediction: Under 62.5 (-110)
