Nanjing-2nd-Asian-Youth-Games-2013

Indian players are all set to take part in the 2nd Asian Youth Games which will be held in the city of Nanjing, China from 16 August to 24 August 2013. A total of 90 Indian players will be participating in this international multi-sporting event which is held every four years for athletes aged between 14-17 years.

As the Indian Olympic Association was banned due to political interference by International Olympic Committee in December 2012, Indian players will not compete under the tri-colour in this multi-sporting eves. Instead they will participate in these games as independent athletes under the banner of the Olympic Council of Asia, which directly means that if any Indian player wins the Gold medal in these games, neither the Indian flag will be raised nor the Indian National Anthem will be played.

This is not the first time that the Indian players are participating under the banner of OCA, even in the Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games held in Incheon, South Korea from 29 June to 6 July, Indian players took part as independent athletes under the same banner.

In the first edition of these games which were held in Singapore in 2009, Indian players grabbed five gold, three silver and three bronze medals, but in the first edition there were only 9 sports. This time, it’s much bigger. This time, there will be a total of 118 events in 16 sports and around 2645 athletes from 45 nations across Asia will be competing to become the best junior player of the continent. Host nation China will send the biggest contingent in these games followed by Thailand and Kazakhstan.
