Newcastle United have completed the signing of Italian young fullback Davide Santon from Inter Milan. The value of the deal is undisclosed although the price is believed to be around the €5.6m figure. The young defender will now have a chance to re-ignite his career after finding himslef frozen on the Inter Milan bench recently.
Santon, who has been compared with the likes of Paolo Maldini, will come in as a direct replacement for Jose Enrique, who left for Liverpool recently. Nevertheless, both set of parties are equally excited about this move, with Newcastle United signalling their ambitions with a flurry of signings througout the summer.
Toon boss, Alan Pardew told nufcTV: “We are delighted to bring to Davide to Newcastle. He is a quality left-back and an established international who also gives us flexibility in defence. Davide is a young lad and a great signing for us and I am sure he will adapt to the Premier League very quickly.”
Santon, who was equally entralled at the prospect of playing for Toons, claimed that the ambition of the club played an integral role in convincing him to switcj to English football.
Santon said: “I am really pleased to sign for Newcastle. The chance to play in the Premier League and in front of 50,000 fans at St. James’ Park was too good to turn down. This is an ambitious club who want to move forward and I want to help them achieve that.”
