Cricket2012: West Indies keeper-batsman Denesh Ramdin responded to criticism by legendary Sir Vivian Richards in an unusual manner, flashing a note that read ‘Yeah Viv, talk nah’ soon after completing his century against England in the third Test.

1986: India put the seal on their first Test win in 11 attempts at Lord’s, after a nervous run-chase on the final day. Dilip Vengsarkar scored 126 in the first innings and thus became the first person to score hundreds in three successive Lord’s Tests.

1981: Birth of Albie Morkel, a South African all-rounder who bowls right-arm medium fast and bats left-handed.

Football

1984: England got a rare victory over Brazil thanks in part to a memorable strike from winger John Barnes.2001: Having already signed striker Teddy Sheringham from Manchester United, new Tottenham Hotspur manager Glenn Hoddle dipped into the transfer market again to snap up Gustavo Poyet from Chelsea.

Basketball

1984: In a series that went to seven games, Boston Celtics beat LA Lakers 4 games to 3.

Tennis

1965: Birth of Claudio Mezzadri, a retired professional tennis player from Switzerland. Mezzadri turned professional in 1983, and won his only ATP title four years later.
