England cruises past India at World Cup Squash

Hosts India, seeded sixth in the tournament, suffered a 3-0 defeat to the second seeded England in their opening Pool B match of the World Cup Squash 2011.

With the top players in both men’s and women’s section donning the British colours including James Willstrop and Peter Barker both ranked in men’s top 10 Jenny Duncalf, ranked 2 in the women’s, it was difficult for India to give a fight to the English, let alone beat them.

Saurav Ghosal, the highest ranked Indian in the world at 24, played his class in his match against Willstrop. His 12-14, 11-3, 11-5, 10-12, 12-10 loss was certainly not a disgrace.

The event also saw the computerised refereeing system being used in a competition in India for the first time on a trial basis.

The results:

Egypt bt Malaysia 2-1

Egypt bt South Africa 3-0

France bt Sri Lanka 3-0
