No. 1-ranked prospect AJ Dybantsa will be taking on his old school, Prolific Prep, in a league game as part of Grind Session Kentucky on Sunday, Dec. 8. Meanwhile, Prolific Prep will be led by No. 3 Darryn Peterson, who took over the star player reigns from the Utah Prep star when he left.
The game is scheduled for tip-off at 6 p.m. ET on Dec. 8, and the livestream may be available for NFHS Network subscribers. For those who miss the matchup, the Grind Session will post the game and highlights on its YouTube channel.
AJ Dybantsa played for Prolific Prep last season but then transferred to Utah Prep during the offseason. Meanwhile, Darryn Peterson is also a new addition to his school, as he used to play for Huntington Prep in West Virginia last season before transferring to Prolific Prep.
The two did play together for the 2023 USA Men's U16 National Team for the FIBA Americas U16 championships, winning the gold medal in Mexico. They would be facing one another on opposite teams come December, though.
So far, the Utah Prep Athletes have an unblemished 4-0 record for the 2024-2025 season, with victories over Balboa School, Accelerated Prep, and fellow five-star Nate Ament and Highland High School. Their latest victory came on Nov. 17, with Utah Prep beating Empowering Others Prep 71-48.
Meanwhile, the Prolific Prep crew started strong, including a massive victory against favorites Christopher Columbus High School, led by the five-star Boozer Twins, Cameron and Cayden. However, their record sits at 8-1 after losing to Mt. Zion Prep Academy 72-67 on Monday.
