Carmelo Anthony's son, Kiyan Anthony, once shared his thoughts on the possibility of facing LeBron James' son, Bronny James, in the NBA. On an episode of "7pm in Brooklyn," on YouTube in July, he touched briefly on his high school basketball journey, recalling how he played against Bronny and reflecting on the prospect of doing so again in the pros.
"Like, we could play against each other," Anthony said (Timestamp: 6:07). "Like, we played against each other in high school. I was only a freshman or a sophomore, and he was a senior. But now that we could get to the league and play against each other, that's crazy to just think about."
When asked what it was like to see Bronny get drafted (No. 55 to the LA Lakers) in June, Kiyan described the experience as both exciting and inspiring:
"It was fire," Anthony said (Timestamp: 5:45). "Like, just to know that he started it and now that I got a chance to get to where he's at, like, in the league, that's fire. … Especially him, like, playing with his pops. That's crazy. That's so crazy to me."
Entering his senior season at Long Island Lutheran High School, Kiyan is a consensus four-star recruit and widely regarded as one of the country's top players. ESPN ranks him No. 36 overall and No. 1 in New York.
After receiving offers from prestigious programs such as Syracuse, Florida State, Ohio State, USC and Rutgers, he signed with his father's alma mater, Syracuse, earlier this month.
Bronny James was a four-star recruit, ranked No. 20 nationally in the 2023 class by ESPN. He spent one season with the USC Trojans but was hampered by his cardiac arrest in the summer of 2023.
Kiyan Anthony's Path Forward: Signing with Syracuse and continuing his family legacy
Kiyan Anthony's basketball career is poised for an exciting next chapter as he looks toward his collegiate future. As the son of a basketball icon, Kiyan's recruitment was one of the most talked-about in his class. However, his heart seemed to gravitate toward Syracuse, the same school where his father, Carmelo Anthony, led the Orange to a national championship in 2003.
In October 2023, Kiyan made an official visit to Syracuse, where he posed in a Syracuse jersey alongside his father and met with coach Adrian Autry. The visit left a lasting impression, and on Nov. 15, Kiyan signed with Syracuse.
This decision not only solidifies his future as part of a storied basketball program but also continues the Anthony family's legacy at Syracuse. Kiyan's commitment to the Orange is sure to spark excitement as fans are eager to see what he'll accomplish at the next level.
