On November 27, 2024, BLACKPINK's Rosé appeared on the YouTube podcast Therapuss with Jake Shane, in an episode that touched many fans. During the nearly hour-long session, Rosé shared insights about her journey, from being part of a globally acclaimed group to restarting her career as a solo artist.
While the conversation covered various topics, including her recent hit collaboration with Bruno Mars for Apt. and her upcoming solo album, one particular segment struck an emotional chord with fans. Rosé candidly discussed her struggles with online criticism during BLACKPINK's hiatus.
She admitted that despite knowing the negativity would be overwhelming, she often found herself scrolling through social media, unable to resist reading the comments. She even joked about how reading them would “ruin her day,” although the experience sounded far from humorous. She stated,
"I was on the internet doing my daily check of negative comments... That's very me. I have to be myself, but that's something I do. I'm ashamed, but to my sense, I'm, like, working really, really hard... And then I find myself in like the wrong part of... the social media world, and I've put myself there, obviously. But I'm like where is this comment that's going to... ruin my day? And then I find a good one, and I'm like, hmm."
The idol shared that initially, the criticism didn’t affect her much, but over time, the constant barrage of negativity began to wear her down. Rosé revealed that the anger and frustration stemming from these comments eventually consumed her.
For the unversed, BLACKPINK went on hiatus after releasing their second studio album, Born Pink, in September 2022, as the members pursued solo careers. During this transitional period, Rosé signed with The Black Label, a subsidiary of YG Entertainment, in June 2024.
While the group members' individual decisions garnered praise, they were also met with criticism, with detractors labeling them with words like “lazy” or “unprofessional.” Reacting to Rosé's latest confession, an X user wrote,
"The fact she’s laughing at recalling this specific incident that happened to her, but in real time it must’ve hurt her so badly, you didn’t deserve that baby."
Fans also expressed admiration for Rosé’s honesty, noting how challenging it must have been for her to endure such negativity while working on her music.
"God she’s so precious. i mean everyone will always have to say something about you. whether you’re doing something good. people will still have to say something. can’t imagine what she’s going through when she’s reading those negative comments. and same goes to the girls," an X user wrote.
"Y’all haters are useless and lifeless," a fan commented.
"What rosé said here should make y’all understand that you should think 1000+ times more before posting a comment, especially a negative one, idols are real people too and just like everyone else," another person remarked.
"I wanna hug her so baaaaad," a fan mentioned.
Many took to social media to voice their support, commenting on how the idol seemed healthier and happier during the podcast.
"I think on that time it was pretty bad really bad but right now she seems like she's past it & can talk freely about it that she put it in a song as she said in one of her interviews..It's a good thing Rosé find song-writing or session in the studio therapeutic for her," a netizen remarked.
"She seems really strong and together btw, dealing with that kind of negativity cant be easy," an X user wrote.
