"Memories became the ideas for the first melody of this song"- Park Hyo-shin reveals how 'Winter Ahead' with BTS' Taehyung came together

On Friday, November 29, the Korean media outlet Newsen reported that Park Hyo-shin opened up about his collaboration with BTS' Taehyung’s latest track Winter Ahead. The musician also revealed how the song came together. This revelation came on the day of the official release of BTS' Taehyung’s new song.

Hyo-shin stated that Winter Ahead was a challenging genre as it was quite different from his and Taehyung’s main genres. Therefore, the duo decided to take a little risk on their new music project. He said,

“The process of challenging genres other than each other's main genres was a little risky, but it was a lot of fun. I’m very happy that we can finally release our song this winter. I think this project started when V played the track he had one day and hummed the melody.”

He went on to say that the first melody of their song came from memories. They repeated this process of discussing about various things and this is how Winter Ahead came into being. He said,

“We like to have a glass of wine and listen to each other’s favorite music and talk about various things, so those memories became the ideas for the first melody of this song, and through repeated collaborations with V, Winter Ahead came to be.I hope you enjoy the harmony of the warm melody that is perfect for winter, our voices, and the lyrics”

BTS' Taehyung and Park Hyo-shin’s Winter Ahead released on November 29

Following the interesting teaser releases, BTS' Taehyung and Park Hyo-shin dropped their much awaited joint track Winter Ahead on November, via various music platforms, alongside MV on YouTube via HYBE labels’ page. As of this writing, the music video of the song garnered over 1.6 million views on YouTube within 5 hours of its debut.

According to the publication, Park Hyo-shin disclosed he and Taehyung were waiting for a chance to work together on a fun project. When he heard about Winter Ahead from BTS' Taehyung he decided to collaborate with him as he thought it would be an interesting work.

“We like jazz, so we’ve always been talking about doing fun projects when we get the chance and then one day, when there was a conversation about working seriously, I thought this project would be a very interesting work.”

BIGHIT Music described Winter Ahead as a jazz-pop composition with a deeper backdrop that highlights the serene vocal qualities of the two artists. The song conveys that happiness can be discovered in the companionship of another.


In related events, Park Hyo-shin released several pictures with BTS' Taehyung on his Instagram account, showing the singers reveling in their time playing in the snow. The BTS member appeared elated, having expressed a desire for snow in his previous Instagram stories.
