A Widow's Game is a Spanish true-crime thriller that premiered on the Netflix streaming platform on May 30, 2025. Originally titled La viuda negra, the film is directed by Carlos Sedes. It revolves around the investigation following the murder of Arturo in his garage. While his wife appears to be devastated by the accident at first, the cops soon discover that she stands to gain the most from the untimely death.

The narrative of A Widow's Game is based on a real-life incident that took place in Spain in 2017. A man was stabbed to death while his young, conventionally attractive wife was considered the lead suspect. The case was extensively covered by the media, who dubbed the woman "the black widow of Patraix." Some names and details in the film have been altered to protect the identities of the individuals involved.

Produced by Bambú Producciones, A Widow's Game has a runtime of 122 minutes. It stars Ivana Baquero (Pan's Labyrinth, High Seas) as María "Maje" Jesús Moreno Canto, Carmen Machi (Celeste, Honeymoon with My Mother, Criminal) as Eva, the case inspector, and Tristán Ulloa (The Asunta Case, Berlin) as Maje's lover, Salva.

In 2017, Spanish engineer Antonio Navarro Cerdán was murdered by his wife's boyfriend. While his name is changed in A Widow's Game to Arturo Ferrer Puig, the names of the perpetrators are kept the same, i.e., María "Maje" Jesús Moreno Canto and Salvador Rodrigo Lapiedra. The former Spanish nurse was having an affair with the nursing assistant Salvador at the time when she came up with the idea of killing her husband.

According to a 2019 report by EuroWeekly, Cerdán was killed with a butcher's knife in a rented garage in the Valencian neighborhood of Patraix in Spain on August 16, 2017. Maje was convicted of orchestrating the homicide, as seen in A Widow's Game, by allegedly convincing Salvador that Cerdán was an abusive husband. The jury was shown text exchanges between the two, which showed the two of them exchanging information about the murder before planning a meet-up.

The report stated that initially, Salvador tried to protect Maje by claiming that he was acting alone when he confessed to stabbing and killing Cerdán. However, after he discovered Maje was having an affair with another man while in custody before the much-publicized trial, he decided to change his statement.

In 2019, Salvador was sentenced to 17 years in prison for the murder, while Maje was sentenced to 22 years. Four years later, Maje became pregnant (not Salvador's child) and was transferred to a "motherhood" unit at Fontcalent Alicante prison, where she gave birth to a healthy baby in July 2023.
