A look at the filming locations of Echo Valley
The story of Echo Valley primarily takes place on a remote farm in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
The filming, however, took place at various counties in New Jersey between May and June 2023, under the title Wildvale.
Hunterdon County, New Jersey
The Hunterdon County in western New Jersey was used as the primary filming location for the movie.
Several scenes were filmed in the towns of Stockton, Clinton, and Lambertville. Moreover, a farmstead on the Seabrook Road in Stockton posed as Kate's farm property.
Morris County, New Jersey
Filming moved to Rockaway in the northern part of Morris County in late June 2023, as per the local newspaper Philly Voice.
The scenes where Kate dumps the dead body into the pond were filmed at the Mount Hope Pond located inside the Mount Hope Historical Park in the township.
Additionally, the urban landscape of Jersey City, the seat of Hudson County, also appears in a few scenes in the film.
Buckinghamshire, England
All the scenes involving underwater shots were captured at the Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, England.
Julianne Moore called the experience of shooting those scenes "fascinating," while speaking to Vanity Fair on March 25, 2025.
"That was fascinating for me. You take this deep breath and then you go down there. They push you all the way down and you do all your acting. It was definitely a challenge for me," she said.
What is the story of Echo Valley?
Kate Garrett (Julianne Moore) lives alone at the Echo Valley Farm following the death of her wife, Patty. One night, her addict daughter, Claire (Sydney Sweeney), arrives unexpectedly in tears.
She claims to have killed her boyfriend, Ryan, in self-defense during an argument while they were camping together.
Driven by her maternal instinct, Kate decides to protect Claire at any cost. She dumps the dead body, which is covered in sheets, at the local Marsh Lake.
After her daughter suddenly leaves the house, Kate uses the FindMyPhone app to track her down and is surprised to see that she is with Ryan.
Flashback scenes reveal that Claire and Ryan 's relationship took a dark turn after she threw his duffel bag in the river, unaware that it contained drugs worth thousands of dollars.
Ryan agreed to pay back the dealer, Jackie Lyman (Domhnall Gleeson), by selling his drugs. However, he added fentanyl to his stash to increase his profit margin, causing one of his clients, Greg, to overdose and die.
The duo sought Jackie's help with the dead body, and together they decided to get Kate to take care of the matter for them.
Sometime later, Jackie extorts money from Kate by disclosing that he saw her dump a dead body in the lake and threatens to report her to the police.
With no savings at hand, Kate decides to burn the farm down and use the insurance money to pay the ransom. She also retrieves Greg's body from the lake and tosses it inside the burning house.
Kate carefully creates a scenario where the police become convinced that Jackie worked as her farmhand, and murdered Greg. They arrest Jackie and charge him with murder, setting Kate and Claire free at last.
