Azealia Banks recently expressed discontent over Pusha T using a picture of Whitney Houston's hotel bathroom as the cover of his 2018 album Daytona on June 3, 2025.
Criticizing Pusha T via a tweet, Banks wrote:
"Well, at least Kanye isn’t cursed by Whitney Houston. I will never forgive pusha T for using a photo of Whitney Houston’s bathroom in the suite she passed away in as cover art. And anyone with respect for the genius of black women and black womans culture shouldn’t either. This ni**a had a fit because Drake had a baby on him. LMAOOO #gayyyy."
Azealia's outburst over Pusha T, whose real name is Terrence LeVarr Thornton, resulted from NFR Podcast posting a tweet about the rapper's latest comment on Kanye West. The NFR Podcast's tweet was an excerpt from Terrence's latest GQ interview, wherein he commented on Kanye, stating:
“His intuition is even more genius-level, right? But that’s why me and him don’t get along, because he sees through my fakeness with him. He knows I don’t think he’s a man. He knows it.”
According to Variety's report dated May 2018, Kanye West paid $85,000 to license the photo of Whitney Houston used on Pusha T's album cover. The image is a 2006 snippet taken at the late singer and actress' Atlanta residence after an alleged substance binge consisting of multiple paraphernalia and drugs.
In an interview with Angie Martinez in 2018, Terrence shared that Kanye changed the album's artwork at the last minute.
"He changed my artwork last night at 1 a.m. He wasn’t feeling it. The [original] artwork — it was pictures that we all agreed on. He picked the photographer, I took these pictures, I was like, ‘Yo, these are fresh.’ I picked all of these pictures out, he had a little edit to it, how he wanted the actual grading of the picture to look. Picked the picture, great, we look, boom, boom, boom, it’s good,” Pusha said.
Pusha T mentions Kanye West kept his word on giving 50% of ownership stake in GOOD Music roster
During his interview with GQ, Pusha not only commented on why he doesn't get along with Kanye West but also addressed how Ye handled the finances of their equation.
For context, Ye expressed discontent over the predatory nature of unfair contracts and masters ownership in 2020. At the time, Kanye was signed to Def Jam and owned a music label called GOOD Music, which signed artists like Kid Cudi, Pusha T, Big Sean, and John Legend, among others. Moreover, Ye's GOOD Music had signed a worldwide deal with Def Jam in 2011.
Following up on his outburst, Kanye announced that he would give a 50% ownership stake in the masters of the GOOD Music roster to the artists signed under the label. This allowed artists to access the financial gains of their work and get full control over the same.
In his GQ interview, Terrence mentioned that Ye kept his word, stating:
“The greatest thing he did and why I am okay with where me and him are right now—and I'm cool with staying that way—is because at the end of the day, my truth is my truth, but I still respect what he did in the business. And he speaks ill about the music we've made and giving me certain records, but the one thing he did give me was all the profits back from the Def Jam deal.”
In his GQ interview, Pusha T also admitted that he feels Kanye West is sick yet calculative. He claimed that Ye calculated how disruptive he could be with his sickness, adding that Kanye was "detrimental to everything."
