The Beach Boys co-founder and singer Brian Wilson has passed away at 82 years old. The legendary musician's family confirmed the news on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, in an Instagram post. Shared via the singer's official Instagram, alongside a photo of him smiling to the camera while sitting on a bench, his family wrote:
"We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away. We are at a loss for words right now."
His kids' statement, however, didn't specify any more details about the musician's passing, including when it happened and the cause of his death. However, according to the Associated Press, The Beach Boys singer was put in a conservatorship to oversee both his personal and medical affairs in May 2024.
AP News and People also mentioned that Brian Wilson's doctor reported that he has a "major neurocognitive disorder (such as dementia)." During the hearing, the judge appointed two of the singer's longtime representatives as his conservators. The first one is his publicist, Jean Sievers, and his manager, LeeAnn Hard.
The Beach Boys pay tribute to Brian Wilson as news of his death makes headlines
Following the news of the death of the founding member of The Beach Boys, the band paid tribute to Brian Wilson. Shortly after Wilson's family announced the singer's death on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, the band took to their Instagram account to grieve and remember the "genius" musician. Alongside a picture of Wilson in his younger years, while on a boat, the band wrote:
"The world mourns a genius today, and we grieve for the loss of our cousin, our friend, and our partner in a great musical adventure."
The Beach Boys remembered Brian Wilson as "the heart of The Beach Boys," but he wasn't only that. They say that he was also the "soul of our sound," adding that the late musician changed the course of music forever through the "melodies he dreamed up" and the emotions he expressed in every note. The band further acknowledged his talent and legacy in music, writing:
"His unparalleled talent and unique spirit created the soundtrack of so many lives around the globe, including our own. Together, we gave the world the American dream of optimism, joy, and a sense of freedom—music that made people feel good, made them believe in summer and endless possibilities."
The band admitted that they are "heartbroken" about Wilson's passing. However, they also said that his legacy will continue through the songs he created and their memories of him.
One of the two remaining founding members of The Beach Boys, Al Jardine, also shared a separate statement from the band. In his Instagram post on June 11, he remembered Brian Wilson as his friend, classmate, football teammate, bandmate, and "brother in spirit."
He also found comfort in thinking that Wilson is now reunited with the band's OG members and Wilson's brothers, Dennis and Carl, who passed away in 1983 and 1998, respectively. Only Al Jardine and the Wilson brothers' cousin, Mike Love, are the surviving founding members of the band.
Brian Wilson is survived by his children, including his daughters with his first wife, Marilyn Rovell, and his adopted kids with his second wife, Melinda Kae Ledbetter.
