Taylor Swift's latest Instagram post sparked rumors of the global pop star quietly endorsing presumptive Democratic nominee Kamala Harris for the upcoming November elections. On August 6, 2024, Swift posted a carousel of photos from her shows in Warsaw, Poland, as she does for every city she visits on her "The Eras Tour."

The seventh picture on the carousel in particular, however, garnered people's attention. In the photo, Swift is wearing her Lover-era orange and pink body suit, holding a pink guitar. Behind her, there is a silhouette of a woman waving and walking.

As the photos hit Instagram, an account on X under the handle @CalltoActivism presumed the silhouette resembled Harris, leading to speculation about Swift backing the VP in the upcoming elections.

However, the theory was debunked by X user @iamjacobwulff, who compared the raw footage from the concert to the photo. The video showed that the woman, thought to be Harris, was one of Swift's background dancers.

Other Swifties who attended her shows or watched her concert movie corroborated this theory. They added the woman was the dancer who usually leaves the stage between Swift singing The Man and Lover at every show.

Taylor Swift endorsed Joe Biden in the 2020 elections

While Taylor Swift refrained from making political statements in her early career, she cast her endorsement for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in the 2020 US elections. The singer, who has been vocal about her dislike for Trump, accused the former President of “stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism."

Swift also publically endorsed two Democratic candidates in Tennessee in 2018 during the mid-term elections. The singer, who steered clear of politics for fear of isolating her audience, revealed in a social media post at the time,

"In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now. I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country."

Taylor Swift's political views as explained in Miss Americana

Taylor Swift also documented her political views in her 2020 documentary Miss Americana. In one scene in the documentary, Swift is seen tearfully arguing with her father and other members of her management about wanting to issue a political statement during the mid-term elections.

She also disagreed with Republican candidate Marsha Blackburn's policies under the guise of 'Tennessee Christian values.' She was heard saying, "I live in Tennessee. I am Christian. That’s not what we stand for."

When her team told her that news publications would write articles with the headline 'Taylor Swift Comes Out Against Trump,' Swift responded:

“I don’t care if they write that. I’m sad that I didn’t two years ago, but I can’t change that. Right now, this is something that I know is right. I need to be on the right side of history.”

According to the documentary, Tennessee's youth voter count increased in 2018 after Swift's social media post urging young people to vote, with over 50,000 last-minute registered voters.
