Kendrick Lamar's sixth album, GNX, was released on November 22, 2024, and is breaking records. While fans and celebrities have shared their reactions, DJ Akademiks' comments have made headlines. During a live-streaming session, Akademiks claimed that the album was expected to generate $325,000 in sales. The video of his statement started trending on November 29.
"Sell 325. God damn it. What the f*ck? I gotta teach Drake when I do win. I don't like n*ggas and they're dropping. When Meek was droppin', I couldn't say a word, I couldn't say a tweet. I was acting."
The claim comes a few days after DJ Akademiks criticized Kendrick Lamar for collaborating with producer Jack Antonoff on GNX. Akademiks shared a post through X on November 25, which has been deleted now, and it reads:
"Kendrick Lamar had colonizer Jack Antonoff co-produce his new album instead of empowering a foundational black American beat maker."
Meanwhile, netizens took to the comments section of NFR Podcast on X to share their reactions to Akademiks' claims related to the sale of GNX. One of them wrote:
"he opening up a bottle as we speak right now 😭"
Similar responses continued below the post with users seemingly criticizing Akademiks for the way he spoke in the video. A person also made fun of the fact that Akademiks was unable to believe that Kendrick Lamar's album was successful.
"LOOOL he couldn't believe it, he had to turn off his comments on the next post about Kendrick", a user wrote on X.
"Dot winning that's all that matters f*ck this n*gga. He did what he set out to do. Popped out and showed n*ggas", a netizen stated on X.
"Whenever I hear about akademiks he’s got Drake’s meat all over his mouth", an X user stated.
However, Drake's fans also stepped in, with most of them claiming that GNX was not as successful as Drizzy's albums.
"After all the beef hype this is an easy flop", a user reaction mentioned on X.
"Drake will sell more with his next album", an X reaction reads.
"Still hasn't outsold Drake on any albums lmao", one of the reactions stated.
Kendrick Lamar's album is expected to take the top position on the charts
GNX has left a positive impression on Lamar's fans. Lamar has been already trending for some time after Drake filed a petition on November 25, 2024, claiming that Universal Music Group allegedly used different methods to boost the streaming figures of Kendrick's diss track, Not Like Us.
A report by Hits Daily Double on Thursday, November 28, stated that the legal problem contributed to creating more buzz for the album and it is expected to record sales of somewhere between 310,000 and 325,000, helping it to reach on top of the US Billboard 200.
GNX is expected to surpass the sales of albums by artists like Tyler, The Creator, Travis Scott, Eminem, and Kanye West. Vibe magazine recently reported that it could become the most-streamed Hip-Hop album of 2024. The album, Kendrick Lamar's sixth, features 12 songs, including Wacced Out Murals and Squabble Up.
