Well-known rapper Latto is being criticized by the fans of Nicki Minaj after she called Lil' Kim a GOAT Female Rapper when she recently appeared for an interview on Complex's GOAT Talk. Latto's sister Brooklyn Nicole also participated in the conversation.
Notably, Latto's response came in a Q&A session during the interview where she selected a card that featured the question:
"Who is the GOAT female rapper?"
Brooklyn answered that she had been listening to her sister, adding that she was not trying to be biased. Latto explained that she called Lil' Kim a "GOAT" because of her significant contributions to music and fashion.
"I mean, I am the GOAT though. I'm my GOAT and that's all that matters, Latto added.
Latto continued praising Lil' Kim by saying:
"I love that b*tch. I love her, and she's Big Momma, too. It's a Big Momma thing."
However, Nicki Minaj's fans were frustrated after listening to Latto's response and they took to the comments section of an Instagram post by The Neighborhood Talk, who shared a clip of the interview. One of the users wrote:
"It was Nicki before the beef."
People specifically believed that Latto's answer was intentional considering that she has been involved in a dispute with Minaj for a long time. A user directly claimed that Latto was not telling the truth and another person wrote that Nicki has contributed more to the music industry compared to Lil' Kim.
Nicki Minaj and Latto's have been in a feud for around two years
The rappers' beef started after Nicki's single Super Freaky Girl was not included among the rap categories at the 2022 Grammy Awards. Although it was chosen for Best Pop Solo Performance, Minaj expressed her dissatisfaction with the same through social media, specifically targeting Latto.
Minaj appeared in an Instagram Live session in October 2022, referring to Latto's single Big Energy and said:
"Now, let's say that 'Super Freaky Girl' is a pop song. Let's just say that. What is [Latto's] 'Big Energy'?... If you move 'Super Freaky Girl' out of rap and put it in pop, do the same thing for 'Big Energy.'"
Latto seemingly replied to Nicki Minaj's statement by posting a tweet and saying that she is unhappy for being unable to celebrate her victory. Minaj also shared a post on X, criticizing that Latto did not take sides for the "black woman she called her biggest inspiration."
Although the tweet was eventually deleted, Latto addressed the private conversation she had with Minaj, saying that she intended to end the problems between them. The beef took a worse turn when Nicki shared messages sent by Latto where the latter requested a collaboration alongside some reference songs.
Latto replied by targeting Minaj's husband Kenneth Petty, calling him a registered s*x offender. Nicki questioned Latto on why she did not use the same words for Kodak Black in the past. The rappers discontinued posting anything for a long time and Latto referred to Nicki Minaj during her performance at Coachella 2023 as she was heard rapping:
"Say she got a problem, imaginary smoke/B*tch, you said it's up, then put on the floor. Let a b*tch know, we tired of the subtweets this year."
An official response regarding the criticism is currently awaited from Latto.
