Peter Frampton partially blamed Megadeth for the cancellation of one of his shows, leading to a swift response from the band. Frampton's Tuesday, September 17, gig at Virginia Credit Union Live! was canned due to "unforeseen circumstances." Just two days earlier, on September 15, Megadeth's show at the same venue was also canceled due to "unexpected and unpredictable circumstances."

During his performance in Philadelphia on September 17, Frampton suggested that Megadeth's soundcheck at the venue may have allegedly caused structural damages to the stage. Peter Frampton said:

"So, we had a show canceled the other day because of weather. And also Megadeth did a soundcheck, I think a couple of days before our show, and after they finished their soundcheck, there was structural damage to the stage. I’m not blaming them — could have been another band — but it looks pretty like it. So, sorry, Megadeth. I had to rat on you."

On September 23, Megadeth released a statement to Blabbermouth, claiming that they never did a soundcheck. Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine added that Frampton was "misinformed" and that the decision to cancel the show was "purely" for safety reasons.

"MEGADETH did not even get a chance to sound check at all in Richmond, Virginia" — The band reacts to Peter Frampton's comments

The drama between Megadeth and Peter Frampton seemingly began when Megadeth's September 15 show at Richmond, Virginia's Virginia Credit Union Live! was canceled. The band informed fans via a social media post:

"Due to unexpected and unpredictable circumstances, our show tonight, Sunday, Sept. 15, in Richmond, Virginia, has been canceled and will not be rescheduled."

Two days later, on Tuesday, September 17, Peter Frampton also announced the cancellation of his performance at the same venue through a Facebook post. Interestingly, both statements were worded quite similarly. Frampton's post read:

"Due to unforeseen circumstances, our show tonight at Virginia Credit Union LIVE has been cancelled. We apologize for the inconvenience. Refunds will be available at point of purchase."

While performing at The Met Philadelphia on September 17, Frampton addressed the canning of his Virginia gig. The singer told the crowd that the show was canceled due to the weather, but he also suggested that Megadeth's soundcheck may have caused "structural damage." Frampton clarified that he wasn't blaming Megadeth and noted that this could have also been any other band.

In response, on September 23, Megadeth's publicists at Schneider Rondan Organization released a statement to Blabbermouth to clear up what they called "misinformation" regarding Frampton's statements. It read:

"MEGADETH did not even get a chance to sound check at all in Richmond, Virginia contrary to what Peter Frampton reports. MEGADETH's rigger was in the venue's steel grid system above the stage getting ready to hang the lights when he noticed there was damage to the venue's grid."

Once the rigger noticed the damage, the band stated that he pointed it out to the promoters and the venue, after which the stage was deemed "unsafe" to put the band on stage or hang their production. This was due to a risk of "in-house grid failure," which could have led the touring light and sound equipment to fall on the band, the crew, or the audience, causing "serious injury or death."

Megadeth founding member and frontman, Dave Mustaine, did not shy away from the controversy and offered his take on Peter Frampton's comments, even adding a sly little dig at the English-American guitarist and singer. As per Blabbermouth, Mustaine said:

"It seems Frampton was misinformed about our show being canceled. The decision was purely based on safety. It's disappointing when someone you admire talks out their a*s about you."

Peter Frampton has not responded to Megdeth or Dave Mustaine's comments at the time of writing this article.
